Let’s Eat, Happy Hour And New Friends

Who Is Coming With Me to Italy?

A tangerine-painted Aperitivo 1919 van has enthusiasm, adventure, and creativity¹ written all over it. Feeds my daydream of touring Italy with friends—an itinerary filled with laughter, song, dance, and savouring culinary delights on repeat.

If I could gift an all-expense-paid vacation, would you join me?

Italian culture is so deeply soaked in an appreciation of the good things in life.” —Mariska Hargitay

Happy Hour with Friends

Italian Happy Hour, a food and drink tradition, marks the start of socializing with family and friends. Enjoy an aperitivo (pre-meal drink) between 6 pm to 8 pm. Unwind and “aprire” — open, turn on your appetite.

We will feast on appetizers called antipasti to prepare our palette for dinner. I have been practicing the art of food plating, decorating antipasto charcuterie boards with sliced cheeses, olives, grilled veggies, prosciutto, and salami. A meal on its own, it will hold us over until dinner at 9 pm.

The Aperol Spritz Cocktail

Let’s raise a glass of an oh-so-good and refreshing sunset-hued cocktail or mocktail of choice. Clink your glass by saying, cin-cin (pronounced chin-chin)!

This is the recipe for the popular Italian aperitivo, with a link to How the Aperol Spritz Became the Summer’s Hottest Drink.

The Original Aperol Spritz Ingredients » Equal parts Aperol » Equal parts Cinzano Prosecco » Splash of Soda

Instructions: Mix all ingredients in a wine glass with ice and gently stir. Garnish with an orange slice.²

A Growing Guest List of Friends

So many writers have become friends and added sweetness to my life since joining Medium. If I were to host a Friendsgiving gathering, know that there is always a seat for you at my table.

When you spot the Aperitivo 1919 van cruising down the road, get ready to hop aboard:)

We are going to the Amalfi Coast. Tonya S. Ware, stopovers in Capri and Positano, selected with you in mind. Picturesque beach town destinations dotted with colourful houses, spectacular sunsets, excellent food, and wine… sound good, my friend?

This Friendsgiving van will pick up kindred spirits Amy Marley, Jaylee Reign and Rebecca Romanelli.

Srini will humour us with his storytelling—after Iceland, what happened with How I Impressed a Hollywood Girl Who Hated Me? Have you met Emma Watson or Emma Stone?:)

There are after-dinner poetry readings by the talented Thief, Jenine Bsharah Baines, and David Rudder.

Bring walking shoes. After dinner, it’s customary to walk arm in arm, and we can explore philosophy, psychology and insightful life conversations with Myriam Ben Salem🦋. She will most likely coax us all to get up and dance. Bingz Huang may teach us all how to soul dance with silks!

While travelling the world, we will rest for a few days with Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles. She is an excellent cook! We promise to only stay a few days, not two weeks:) Picking up Tracy Luk in Tokyo, Japan — have you read her soulful encounters and butterfly narratives? Ching Ching, so happy if you could join us, your stories always make me smile.

And, my Guest List continues in my next published post.

Life is a combination of magic and pasta. Federico Fellini

Ciao for now. Xo

I find other countries have this or this, but Italy is the only one that has it all for me. The culture, the cuisine, the people, the landscape, the history. Just everything to me comes together there. Frances Mayes
