Let’s Be Honest

A MuddyUm Writers’ Prompt

As a breast cancer survivor myself since 1995, and one they told me would kill me to boot, I was particularly entranced by the story of Tig Notaro turning her situation into a stunning stand up comedy show. One that now is historic for its sheer epic impact.

It’s worth watching this show on Netflix, if you are a humorist or write comedy in any form.

It made me think about my own journey with cancer, which I’ve written about in both a book and here on Medium.

Trying to make light of the honest truth about your own life experiences, especially when they are, at times, gasp worthy, is no easy feat. But for this writers’ prompt, that’s what I am asking you to do.

So bring your best writing to the task. We want to share the ups and downs, the joy and the tears. This is the work that comedy was made for — to shine a light on the human experience and help the reader step into your shoes and your life, if only for a five minute read on MuddyUm.

I truly look forward to reading your work.

Here’s some of mine:

This one is more serious.

This one is taking tragedy and turning it into comedy.

Now it’s your turn.
