Let Not Hope Depart
A fiery promise of not just today, but of all the tomorrows to come

Brand new morning moments Filled with dandelions Their seeds float white Aloft on the wind Like a summer snow And I cover my cup To keep my coffee innocent Of their intrusion
Captured by their playfulness Fool that I am These will- ‘o-the-wisps draw me Towards the lake shore Away from responsibility And the inspired productivity That comes with first light
I stand still in view of the White tipped waves Softy rippling inward As I let feelings of hope In a future where Discovery still remains Wash over me Rinsing me clean Of midnight’s embrace Which threatens to envelop My soul each night
I breathe deeply letting go Of the deceptive web That darkness uses In its effort to snare me Promising warmth where none exists Escaping it’s grasp once more As I must each time the sky Lightens my window
As I shake the last vestiges of Obscurity and lackluster From my fingertips I can just hear the laughter Of children on the wind And turning towards the sound I follow it Down the lakefront path It’s gentle curves unfolding In burgeoning day
Putting night at my back I choose the light And face the dawn Which opens before me Like a gift
