Lessons You Can Learn From Writing on Medium
If you can’t learn here, you probably won’t elsewhere

I have been writing on medium for about 2 months now and the effect in my life is worth sharing. I'm confident that you will want such blessings too
I was totally wrong when I initially thought of medium as one of those social media platforms. I’m yet to discover any other platform as educative and informative as medium.
Straight to business:
A friend told me that most writers on medium platform write for money and that if I should consider writing on this platform, it should be what everyone wants to read.
My first article took me 1 week to draft and edit. And this happened.
The article was so awful that I felt like a dumbass.
Here is the statistics

I wasn't just disappointed, I almost deleted my medium account. I summoned courage and didn’t lose focus. I kept on keeping on till one day a miracle happened.
It was an idea!
Everyone pays for what will be of value to them, then I vowed to be more productive and at least affect just one person who cares to read my stories.
“If you want to change the world, start with yourself.” — Mahatma Gandhi
What’s it that people want to read?
Virtually everyone wants to know a little about ;
- making money,
- living happily,
- explorative sex,
- Management of anxiety
- Way out of addiction,
- creativity,
- writing and publications,
- leadership,
- discipline,
- family,
- politics
- Exercise and Body fitness etc.
Trust me I knew little about them.
you can only give what you have and no one can do better than his understanding.
While not have enough to give and to spare? I asked myself.
I started by evaluating my options:
1. To read as many books I can within the shortest time. Especially books that cover people's interest.
“The reading of all good books is like a conversation with the finest (people) of the past centuries.” — Descartes
Here was the breakthrough, I met a guy who gave me some techniques on how to read a book per day. Within the first week I read 3 books, the following week I read another 2books. On and on I have read a few books.
I got obsessed with reading interesting books from well-known authors. Just within 2months, I have read these 10 books:
- The Power of Positive Thinking (Norman Vincent Peale)
- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Stephen Covey)
- The man God uses (Oswald J. Smith)
- You Have a Brain: A Teen’s Guide to T.H.I.N.K. B.I.G. (Ben Carson)
- The Power of your subconscious mind (Joseph Murphy)
- Tough Times Never Last but Tough People Do (Dr. Robert Schuller)
- No Excuses!: The Power of Self-Discipline (Brian Tracy)
- The Fourth Dimension (Paul Yonggi Cho)
- Rich dad poor dad (Robert Kiyosaki)
- An extra medical journal
“In the case of good books, the point is not to see how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.” — Mortimer J. Adler
I also realized that if the knowledge I acquire from books will change another person, it must first change me. I started living by the life principles I gathered from those books.
2. To share my positive personal experiences that anyone of any culture and religion can learn from:
In an attempt to share my personal experiences, I started self-isolation and spending my core time on inner reflections and meditation. Meditation brought me peace and confidence.
“You’ll never find peace of mind until you listen to your heart.” — George Michael
Highlights of the lessons
1. Medium readers don't care about your story if it can't affect their lives:
Why should most people care about your story, if all you do is make people laugh? There are better social media platforms where people can catch fun and avoid boredom.
Most readers come around for serious business, to either read for learning purposes or publish their articles or both?
2. Medium is no way different from real life, you can only give what you have:
Time is the revealer. if what you post is in harmony with your personality, you naturally flow without block.
3. Reading is one singular act that ventilates your mind:
I'm sorry to announce that I was among those few persons that silently wished the lockdown was extended by a little time.
Apologies!
I needed time to read more books.
Two months after one first awful story, I’m convinced that patience is the key. My stories are gradually getting more engagements, with a good view to read ratio.
I finally want to appeal to everyone, that thinks this story sucks. Here’s my contact ([email protected]) email me and tell me how a dumbass I’m. Otherwise, show me support and advice.
