The heart of parenthood

She embodied the true spirit of a Gen Xer, the kind who instinctively turns to Google at the first sign of their child coughing and consults parenting resources when her child starts throwing tantrums.

Rose was an exceedingly involved parent, never really checking out. Her upbringing was in a very humble family, and she had to fight her way to the point she’s at in her life today. Her father, a traditionalist, wanted her to settle into a comfortable life by marrying into a wealthier family. She had the unwavering support of her mother, who helped her chase after her dreams. For her, establishing a foothold in the world was a truly exceptional accomplishment.

Through her personal dedication and with the support of her mother, she ascended to the position of CFO at a multinational corporation. She married a kind-hearted soul and a remarkably supportive partner. The family holds a prominent standing in society and relishes all the conveniences of contemporary living.

Rose was remarkably efficient in balancing her roles as a parent and a professional. She raised her two children, a daughter, and a son, with meticulous care, ensuring they absorbed the right values. She was especially attentive to her little girl, drawing upon her own experiences to guide and prepare her for life’s challenges.

She tactfully guided her daughter to comprehend the hurdles she might encounter as a woman in society, including gender disparities in the workplace and the challenges that could arise after marriage. They frequently engaged in discussions about life’s complexities and the trials of married life, all with the intention of shaping her daughter into someone who managed life with fortitude.

Leveraging her own life experiences, Rose ensured that her daughter approached life with an open mind. She imparted valuable lessons on how to demand respect and be a formidable woman in a world where she would not tolerate mistreatment from anyone.

Both the children got married and began cohabiting with their respective partners. Rose would frequently visit them. She shared a wonderful rapport with her children’s significant others.

During these visits, the warmth and camaraderie between Rose and her children’s partners were palpable. They would often share stories, laughter, and even the occasional heartfelt conversation. Rose’s presence was cherished, and her bond showed the love and esteem they held for her.

On one fateful day, Rose received a message from her daughter-in-law delivering unexpected news. She explained that she and Aron, her son, had decided to get a divorce. Rose was utterly stunned; she hadn’t anticipated this turn of events. Just last month, she had spent a week visiting them and hadn’t noticed any signs of trouble between the two of them.

Rose decided to pay them a visit. When she arrived at their home, Aron was not present. She sought a private conversation with her daughter-in-law, hoping to understand the gravity of the situation.

During this conversation, her daughter-in-law revealed that Aron had been abusive towards her. He subjected her to mistreatment, demanding that she conform to his wishes and showing a complete lack of respect for her as an individual.

Rose was shaken to her core; it was almost impossible for her to believe the words coming from her daughter-in-law. The idea of her son behaving in such a way seemed unfathomable. She had instilled in him better values. The revelation was both heart-wrenching and deeply troubling for her.

Determined to get to the bottom of it, Rose knew she needed to have a candid conversation with Aron. She knew that maybe, just maybe, there was some misunderstanding or a side of the story she hadn’t heard yet.

Recognizing the need for space and time, Rose’s daughter-in-law decided to leave for a while. This break would hopefully provide both parties with the opportunity to reflect and gather their thoughts before attempting to address the deeply-rooted issues at hand.

One evening, Rose prepared a cup of coffee for her son and took it to his room, hoping for a chance to talk to him once more about the troubling situation. She believed that engaging in a lengthy heart-to-heart discussion might pave the way for some form of resolution. She was determined to get to the heart of the matter and find a way to bridge the gap between them.

As Rose stood there with the coffee mug, she unintentionally overheard Aron’s conversation with his friend over the phone. The words she heard sent shockwaves through her entire being, causing her world to crumble around her.

Aron’s tone was filled with anger and resentment as he spoke to his friend about his wife, vowing to “make the bit** pay” for what he perceived as disrespect and a failure to recognize his authority as the head of the family.
