Lessons Learned From Lockdown

Cheers to the Next One!

GETTY

Saying this past year was a transformative one would be an understatement. It was as if the sky fell from the heavens to the earth and time stood still. 2020 was a year unlike any other. It has shown a lot about our leaders, our society, and ourselves as a whole.

How we stood the test of time, surely tested our resolve. The solitude from the lockdown gave us a lot of time to reflect and think about what is important and with the pandemic, still ongoing there is plenty of fear, sickness, and death in supply.

It taught us the value of being connected with each other when so far apart. Lessons learned from Covid were of value importance.

As we hunkered down with our loved ones, slipping slowly into a state of cabin fever, we realize a lot of things about ourselves that we just didn’t have time for.

With the lockdowns being lifted there are still some places that aren’t so fortunate. Some places being forced back into lockdown. Although it will probably never ever, ever, ever, hopefully never ever, ever happen again, (me being optimistic.)

Here are some lessons learned from the pandemic that we can use if we do happen to find ourselves in a similar situation again in the future.

Although it’s very unlikely now that we have Joe Biden and a vaccine to look forward to. Being optimistic again!

Isolation Isn’t So Scary

Unless you’re an extrovert and need human contact to keep on going in life and believing when people aren’t noticing you you cease to exist. But if you’ve never been alone longer than the eight hours you sleep then try giving a break a chance.

While humans are social creatures of instinct, humans also need time to be alone to rest and rejuvenate their bodies and their minds. This alone time is good for concentration, productivity, relationships, and empathy. The more time we are alone the more we value the time we are together.

Isolation can be a great thing from time to time to clear your mind of all distractions, get everything organized and focus more on yourself.

Priorities Are Essential

With all this Lockdown alone time, there is time to focus on the bigger picture, don’t let distractions get in the way. Focus on the essentials in life.

Whatever that is?

Essential is what gets you out of the bed in the morning, what gets you through the day, and what brings you to hope for another one. It’s the goals that you want to accomplish in life wheatear it be getting that dream job, graduating on top of the class, or finding happiness.

Your life goal and health should be on top of that list. Your comfort, prosperity, productivity, and overall attitude would be most efficient when priorities are in order.

Time For Self-Improvement

Whatever it be, learning a new instrument, healthier diet, trying not to swear a lot, going hiking or fishing, trying to get along and not start fights with the In-laws,

We always have excuses not to do something then actually doing it.

Well, where are those excuses now?

We will always find new excuses not to do something, if a lockdown doesn’t motivate you then, maybe the earth being strike by a meteorite the size of Mount Kilimanjaro might.

Like mentioned’ earlier priorities first we have to want to do it, visualize it, then do it. The results may not come overnight, but it’s about the journey to get there.

The Future

As time stands still, all that leaves is our existential existence.

What’s going to happen in the future?

Your life goal must be considered by rethinking and reevaluating what is important to you in life? Ask yourself who are you? What does it mean to you? What do you have to do to get where you want to be in the next 5 years?

Trying to become an English teacher or lawyer, want to learn a new language to travel to that area? Then start by researching the steps needed to get there. We waste so much time with meaningless trials on social media. Studying, visualize and apply yourself should be a priority to become a greater version of yourself.

Toxic Habits Are Destructive

There’s nothing worse than toxic behavior and toxic relationships. Our generation loves bragging about being single, cutting people off, and not trusting anyone as if it were an accomplishment.

Try achieving a real accomplishment by being whole, building bridges instead of walls, and trusting someone more than yourself.

Focus less on the gossip and more on authenticity. Truth is a lot like a fine instrument, once it’s heard it always has a certain ring to it. Be honest with yourself to expect an honest conversation.

Heroes Don’t Come In Spandex and Capes

Here’s a lesson for anyone that was in healthcare and had to fight off the deadly virus. It was a very selfless thing to do, to put oneself in harm’s way for someone else’s benefit.

Heroes come in all shapes, sizes, and forms. We owe a lot of thanks to our healthcare workers, nurses, doctors, and medical scientists for saving the day.

We normally like to imagine heroes as the soldiers fighting on the frontlines or even the superheroes in Marvel films, but superheroes really do come in all shapes sizes, and forms.

They are your teachers in the classroom, they are your parents who raised you and they are also the healthcare workers, nurses, doctors, and medical scientists fighting on a new line of defense in a microscopic war, full of pathogens, disease, and virus.

And Lastly

Family and Friends are Essential

Especially when you are stuck at home or in an apartment with them. As much as we like our time for ourselves, our loneliness, we also like our togetherness.

Despite what Governor Cuomo has you believe, Family and friends are just as essential to life as any paycheck. We value our loved ones because they are unique and special to us and in many cases is the reason to keep going on in life with our goals that we prioritize

GETTY

In Conclusion

The lessons learned from the lockdown are lessons that we’ve always known, just not always shined in the right light. They are lessons that we should be more aware of and lessons to take for the future.
