He always fascinates me with his writings.

I started my medium journey as a newbie writer. So, to excel my writings I did what most of us would do. I searched on YouTube “How can I get 1000 followers on Medium?”. There were lots of video from all types of writer who made detailed video on this topic. But, there was a YouTuber who was completely different from the others.

Yes, he was Tom Kuegler. Other writers on YouTube just made a complete mess regarding the topic to increase followers, but Tom very beautifully addressed his viewers by saying “Write for Yourself and write for the betterment of society, because quality of content matters a lot more than follower count”.

That’s it, I started learning more from Tom after that. I read all of his articles on various platforms. He is so nice that he provided me with friend links to his articles on medium.

I learned a lot from him, not only about writing but also about life. He never gets stressed to express his views to his followers. There are few important lessons that I learned from Tom, and I am sure it will help many others.

1. Be honest with your articles.

You don’t need to pretend that you own a fancy car, a big house to get more exposure to your articles. You don’t need to be a millionaire to write and express your feelings in your articles. Readers love to hear truth and how they can learn from your experiences.

If you are broke, then just don’t try to hide it. Your readers deserve to know the truth about your life. You can always use a pen name or your nickname to be stop stalkers from stalking you on other platforms. But, you should never pretend to be someone else.

Write about your life story, how you overcame failures, how you enjoyed living with only $5000. Write about your journey to get selected for your dream job. Writing about truth will help readers to connect with you emotionally, and they will start building their trust on you.

2. Write consistently.

It is always okay to take holidays on weekend. You can also post 1 article per week, if you have a very tight schedule regarding your other job. But, posting just 1 article on medium per month will ultimately collapse your journey as a writer.

When readers follow you, they expect upcoming articles from you. They followed you for a specific reason and not for increasing their following count. Hence, when you decided to write an article or blog on any platform keep posting consistently.

You can at least dedicate 1 hour daily for writing your article or blog. Just don’t start something and forget about it. If you started writing about your journey of getting job in google, readers are eagerly waiting to listen your complete journey not just the starting.

3. Never treat your content as money earning source.

As a writer, you need to understand the importance of quality content. Earning money from it is just the by product of your content. Write from your heart. Some writers on medium write a spam or clickbait title article on medium, it sometimes earns them couple of dollars. But, what next.

We all are humans, and we are interested in stuff that can help us in our life. Money can be earned at any phase of your life. But, to earn respect you need to write content which is from your heart. Write content which you can love reading 100s of time. Be interested in your writings, because you are the only one that truly supports your dream.

Earning money on medium is obvious for a writer when they write articles, but only focusing on earning money will ultimately cost you a lot. Let medium algorithm decide the fate of your article, you just focus on writing quality content that contains your raw emotions in it.

I always see Tom as my mentor in my writing journey, I trust him blindly regarding growing my journey as a writer. There are lots of writers out there who are eagerly waiting to mentor new writers who have passion to write. We can always excel in any field only with proper guidance from other people who truly completed that journey which you are just starting.

Just be honest with yourself, because you are the only one who knew your real weakness. Try improving yourself with good knowledge available out there. Enjoy your journey, results are just the byproduct of it.
