Lee Hall Sold Thousands of his Self-Published Supernatural Fiction Books
You can too. He shares his tips!

Many self-published authors love the control that independent publishing gives them, and if they’re good, they’ll make money and build a dedicated fan-base and a solid reputation.
Author Lee Hall has seen his sales peak recently and credits much of his success to his social media strategy. Lee shares his tips on how to market books successfully, build your author profile, and make money from your work.
Lee Hall, Strange and Haunting Fiction

Lee Hall is a writer of strange and haunting fiction. He creates stories with elements of horror, the supernatural, and occasionally, superpowers! He says, “My works are about ordinary people who face extraordinary situations”.
Lee self-published his debut novel ‘Open Evening’ in 2016, followed by at least one new release every year. He’s sold around 1700 paid-for copies and done some very successful promotional giveaways to generate reviews and improve his visibility on Amazon. Those giveaways shifted tens of thousands of copies and secured him a dedicated readership who came back to read more. Now he’s focusing on building relationships and on blogging to raise his profile.
“My main approach to marketing these days is to persuade readers to invest in me as a person, then sales should follow,” he explains. “This has been very successful. I am ever present on social media, providing content on my blog that hopefully enriches, informs and includes readers and writers alike.”
Lee uses a book cover designer and an editor. He feels the added value of buying in services to get a professional finish to his books gives him the edge. He’s also big on supporting other independent authors.
“Reviewing fellow authors’ works is a much overlooked method that I highly recommend, to increase the chances of someone investing in you. I also produce blog content that others will find appealing.”
A lot of authors on twitter have a bad habit of tweeting ‘buy my book’ promotions every day, but they fail to show an interest in their followers, or engage with them. This is a bad approach. Lee does things differently.
“I don’t share links to my books very often because I’m ever present on social media and my work is there for readers to find, if they want to,” he says. “Engaging with others on social media is probably the best way to promote yourself!
“No longer being an island but a continent will boost anyone’s profile online and by that, I mean try to involve yourself socially across platforms. Comment on posts in a productive way, try to help others like you and be social. It’s called social media for a reason.
“I would also start a blog — if you consistently produce good content, it will build an audience, which will help promote your books. My blog content is author centric — book promotion advice and book reviews. Blogs are wonderful tools for talking about anything.
Has he learnt any hard lessons? “I spent years querying sub-par work,” he confesses. “In the author game good things take time and dedication. The greatest lesson I learned was to be consistent.”
Lee is a huge fan of self-publishing. “We’re currently in the golden age of self-publishing! Wordsmiths everywhere are realising their dreams. I think it’s fantastic for an industry that was completely closed doors a few years ago.”
