365 Days in the Garden
Learning to Speak Dutch at 69
Mapping out a new adventure
I’ve lived in the Netherlands for more than two years now. Because much of it was during the pandemic, I had limited opportunities for socializing or taking in-person classes. My age is also against me, but I refuse to give up.
Here is how I plan to proceed:
- This summer, I enrolled in a class to take me from A-1 level to A-2. The course is an immersion experience where I will stay on campus and actively attend classes for 9 out of the ten days I am there.
- I’m preparing for the class by reviewing lessons from a past class and going past those lessons to ensure I’m ready when the course begins.
- I’m printing out study materials and will review them daily until the class begins.
- I’ve asked family and friends to practice with me.
I’ll let you know how it goes!
I hope you enjoyed this piece. I’m a retired community organizer and grandmother of two delightful children. I’ve been gardening organically for over 50 years, and I plan to publish something every day this year about things that are growth related, using the kicker “365 Days in the Garden.” So far, I haven’t missed a day. I hope you will join me in this new venture by subscribing to get emails whenever something I write gets published. You can do that here.
