Learn How to Keep Your Mind Intact During Crisis
Some activities that’d help you not to lose your mind during uncertain times.
While going through a crisis, some individuals might find themselves dealing with challenges that they’ve never experienced before. Some folks will also surprisingly realize that some issues they successfully dealt with in the past have resurfaced.
For example, my erstwhile boss who happens to be a recovering alcoholic have relapsed. Similarly, my friend who has been trying to curb his addiction to video games have fallen by the way side. He sleeps late nowadays playing video games. And he wakes up at anytime to continue playing video games like the previous day.
Your mind needs the right nourishment at all times because if you nourish your mind with the right nourishment, you’ll be in a good mood. You’ll be filled with positive energy to carry on with your daily activities. But if you deny your mind the right nourishment then you’ll find yourself struggling through life each day.
And you may end up spending your time doing things that’ll constantly enervate you and weaken your resolve to get through a difficult situation if you don’t know how to support yourself with the right activities and lifestyle.
Below are the simple activities that you can use to support yourself during a time of uncertainty.
Gratitude
I practice gratitude twice a day. The first one takes place in the morning through thanksgiving and prayers. And second one before I go to bed at night. Gratitude helps me not to focus on things that’d put me down. And to focus on the beautiful things that I have. Things that I feel good about.
Thus I do it twice every day because it’d help me immensely during the day. It’ll also help me at the end of the day to relax — and to be at peace with myself.
And the more I practice gratitude the more I understand how beautiful my life is. Because it helps me to understand and appreciate the things I have and not to worry about life — and the current reality. As a result, I approach my day with a mindset filled with gratefulness and appreciation — and I go to bed every night feeling relieved and joyful.
Stay in touch with your therapist
Many are able to handle this situation better because they’re in regular contact with their therapists. You can book an appointment and consult with your counselor over the phone.
Telehealth is burgeoning owing to this crisis. Make use of it if necessary to get the help you need during this tough time. Fear and anxiety can drag you down if you don’t have the right support. Or if you don’t know where and how to get the right support.
Your therapist is there to guide you and help you to see what you’re unable to see. To take your mind to some helpful paths that you can’t reach without being guided by an expert. Therefore staying in contact with your therapist during a trying time will be of immense benefit to your mental health and well being.
Create a simple schedule for your daily activities
Keep it simple and allow some space in between each task so that you’d have some time to relax before you commence the next task. The most important thing is to stay busy around the house. Because staying busy helps to keep the mind from wandering — and descending into the ugly path of gloom and doom.
Remember this isn’t the time to want to accomplish a lot of things at home because the world is currently trying to come out of a very challenging crisis. And this situation induces fear and anxiety. Therefore don’t worry if you’re not as productive as you used to be.
Ensure that your daily tasks are simple and achievable so that it’ll give you what you need. Which is to stay busy each day — and to live your life without worrying so much about the crisis.
And always remember to be kind to your self — and to others. Talk to people over the phone, and give them words of encouragement. Supporting others is a sure way of importing strength into your life.
Stop reading about the plague
Reading news about the same thing that pushed you down can only serve to aggravate the situation. It can cause you to live in constant fear and anxiety. It could condition you to always imagine that the worst is yet to come.
Therefore you’re going to carefully choose the news to consume all through this period. And you’ll choose the ones that’ll encourage you and not to put you down.
I choose what I read and listen to — and I like to read about hope, love, and positive outcome. And I feel good each time I come across a piece that shows people how to cope and the right way to live their lives during the pandemic.
Desist from reading or listening to everything they’re saying about the number of cases, fatalities and possible fatalities. Those contents might not be good for you, therefore stop consuming them.
Read uplifting and entertaining stories
Look out for entertaining stories that’ll uplift your mind. Stories that’ll disconnect you from the negative thoughts that tend to occupy the minds of many during this period. Read a lot of it so that it’ll raise your spirit and fill it with lively words and thoughts. Stories that’ll leave you feeling grateful and hopeful.
Read stories that’ll show you the direction where there’s a bit of light and how to steadily focus in that direction.
This also might be a good time to read your favorite novel. You’re going to find it to be more exciting because you need some excitement in your life at the moment. Read and enjoy the moment, but don’t read pandemic or apocalypse stories. This isn’t the time to read such stories because it won’t serve the right purpose.
Exercise
You must continue to workout though you may have to change your workout routines. Regular exercise is overly important. It’ll help you stay healthy, feel healthy — and energetic. Choose the time that is most suitable for you to exercise. Some people like to do light exercises in the morning and follow it up in the evening with Yoga. Choose what’s best for you. Yoga alone on a daily basis could be enough depending on what you’re trying to achieve.
However, don’t forget to take a walk when you can. Walking is ideal for everyone. Therefore find the right time to step out for a walk. Do it with caution and ensure that you maintain social distancing.
The key is not to allow your health to deteriorate owing to the lockdown. That’s why you’re going to continue to exercise, though this time you may have to improvise since you’re not going to have access to your gym center.
Practice meditation
I spend ten minutes every night to meditate before I go to bed. And I’ve been on it for nine months. Actually it was difficult to keep at it initially because I couldn’t steady my mind at all. And there was no immediate result as I had wrongfully anticipated. But I began to see some benefits towards the end of the first month. My views became clearer. I also noticed that my mind doesn’t swerve around a lot anymore. Unlike in the past.
Meditation is therapeutic and very fitting for a trying time like this. Therefore find a quiet time to relax your body and your mind to experience the health benefits of meditation.
And you mightn’t experience instant results, but always remember that there are results each time you meditate. And these results will become obvious with constant practice.
If I can do this, you also can. Meditation will help you achieve some inner peace and with that you’d be in a better position to win this battle each day.
Find a favorite place for relaxation
A favorite place to relax at home offers real relaxation especially when you’re not trying to accomplish any task at home. You can relax at this particular place to take a nap and to observe some rest. It can also be a place to relax and watch movies or to read.
Therefore find a nice place in your home for relaxation if you don’t already have one. This place could be your couch or you balcony. It could be anywhere. But make sure it’s very relaxing so that you can stretch your tired legs for a deserved rest.
My favorite place has always been my couch. That’s where I’ll most likely be if I’m not sitting at my desk.
