Leadership Is Never About Titles
Titles Don’t Matter

Many dream of becoming a CxO of a company because the CxO title sounds grand and powerful.
However not many can get the titles they desire.
There is one thing you can still do which good CxOs do, i.e., lead. Often, CxOs don’t get to lead just after they get the title. On the contrary, they get the title after they demonstrate they can lead.
If you want to be a leader, don’t wait for someone to give you the title. You can be a leader today, right now.
But how? You may wonder.
In Respect Trumps Harmony, Rachel Robertson explains that one of the significant qualities of good leaders is that they jump to solve problems for others, even if they are not asked to. They don’t care what title they have.
Good leaders never think it is not their job.
Rachel also defines the 3 different domains of leadership. An effective leader needs a blend of all 3 domains.

1. Self Leadership:
Self-awareness and the ability to understand how you are impacting others. And also, your ability to step back and reflect on how you handled a situation.
2. Business Leadership:
Understanding the market you are operating in, your customers, your shareholders, and why you are in business.
None of the companies solely run for the entertainment of employees.
3. Team Leadership:
Ability to lead, inspire, and motivate others.
If you don’t have the right blend, you will end up being a liability to your team and your organization.

Bad Blend A: Self Leadership + Business Leadership (but no Team Leadership) = You will burn out as the team will step back and all the work will start gravitating to you.
Bad Blend B: Self Leadership + Team Leadership (but no Business Leadership) = Fun working environment but nothing will get done and business will get impacted.
Bad Blend C: Team Leadership + Business Leadership (but no Self Leadership) = You will tend to attribute problems to other people’s shortcomings, never ask for feedback from the team as you will assume you are doing a great job. All actions and decisions are based on the ego rather than on what is important for the team or business.
If you want to be a good leader, be a person who is always ready to solve problems and a person who balances self-leadership, business leadership, and team leadership in perfect harmony.
Hope you learned something new.
