Law of Attraction Versus Toxic Positivity
Subtle difference
I’ve recently come across this philosophical framework called the Law of Attraction. It’s a life blueprint that many online gurus swear by to get everything that they want in life.
In a nutshell, the Law of Attraction can be described using the words “like attracts like.” Positive thoughts lead to positive results, and negative thoughts lead to negative results. Logically, you should think positive thoughts. Create vision boards and use affirmations to make your dreams come true.
To me, the Law of Attraction is analogous to hope, optimism, confidence, and inner peace. These are not novel concepts. They have just been given a new name.
Believe in yourself and don’t give up so that you have the energy to confront and overcome obstacles.
But what about toxic positivity? What exactly is the difference between the Law of Attraction and toxic positivity?
The difference lies in the way you handle your emotions.
Toxic positivity is when you force yourself to only think positive thoughts. You actively suppress or dismiss negative emotions. This is inhumane. I wouldn’t recommend it.
People who correctly follow the Law of Attraction let themselves feel. They acknowledge the existence of all emotions. Then, they move forward. This is the most important step.
You’re not supposed to let your emotions define you. Rather, you’re supposed to be this higher being who can distinguish rational thoughts from irrational thoughts. Don’t be afraid to seek outside help if necessary.
There is a balance to everything.
The Law of Attraction eliminates self-doubt. By constantly telling yourself that you deserve to live a better life, you will start believing. Your beliefs dictate your actions, which in turn, will decide the kind of life that you ultimately end up living.
Once self-doubt is eliminated, you can continuously work on your goals. You can be unapologetically ambitious.
