Laptop Off, TV On, And The Choices in Between
Transitioning from one screen to another
As the clock hit 5:30 PM on a Friday, I happily close my work laptop, relieved that the workweek is over.
Now, my “free” time could begin.
I leave my work corner and go to the living room. The couch looks comfy, and I remember the exciting cliffhanger from the last episode of my favorite series.
Snacks catch my eye, and I imagine a TV and snack session.
But, I know it is a slippery slope.
If I start that at 5:30 PM, I’ll end up in the same spot three hours later — no snacks, crumbs on my face, and too lazy to cook dinner (it is my turn tonight).
In all likelihood, the thought of pizza would pop up in my head. Maybe even a dessert?
All I then need to do is make space for my husband on the couch, and we could have a movie night with pizza — a perfect Friday evening!
Well, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to relax on any day of the week.
But instead of turning on the TV right away, can I resist the temptation for another two hours?
Maybe take a walk in the nearby park, quickly grab groceries, or do some bit of cleaning I had planned for the weekend?
I can still order that pizza if I really want one, watch that movie with my husband, and have enough time to enjoy the rest of my night.
But I know I’ll feel less guilty.
So, being a good girl today, with no gym because it is my rest day and stormy winds preventing walks, I sit on the couch.
Instead of turning on the TV, I write this story!
Then I go to the kitchen, make some guacamole and a quick sandwich because I don’t feel like cooking anything elaborate.
After a 30-minute debate without settling on a movie, my husband and I opt to continue with one of our current favorite shows, a Hindi one on Netflix called “Gulaabs and Guns.”
I then quickly edit the story and publish it!
Yay!! 😊
That is a productive use of those few hours without giving up my Friday night fun!
Perhaps tomorrow I will give in to the temptation, who knows?
Here’s wishing everyone a happy and fulfilling weekend! ❤
As always, your support and feedback mean the world to me. Thank you for being a part of my journey. Until next time, happy reading! 💜
