Lake Medicine
Poems From The Porch
Diamonds dancing on the water
Deep resonant call of one bullfrog to another
Friendly ducks chattering as they waddle
Cicadas and birds singing together
Two gray squirrels hopping and jumping
Dragonflies hovering low at the pond’s edge
Sweet little turtle heads popping up like periscopes
Red-winged blackbird peeping and strolling
Cypress trees on the bank with one root in and one root out
The sky is messy today,
with airplane streaks and feather-white clouds haphazardly covering baby blue.
What made that fish leap out of its watery home into the great beyond?
Maybe she just wanted to confirm that there is more
or to get a breath of fresh air.
I have left the noun of my house, too,
to dwell in an environment that nourishes my freedom,
that encourages the understanding of life as a verb,
whose purpose is Love as process.
I’m glad I allowed myself to do that.
I wonder what medicine your soul needs.
