When You’re With Me I Smile
How A Programmer Wooed Me and Serenaded Me

I was at a work party when I first saw him, the programmer. I literally walked up to him and asked, “So, who are you?”
We talked a lot that night, and many of us partied until the wee hours of the morning. I remember he was singing, “Good morning, good morning!” and I just thought, “That guy’s crazy.”
I saw him again at work and recognized him when he passed by on our side of the offices. And I found myself unable to stop thinking about him.
Hence started the flirting.

Skipping Calls and Missing My Bus
I remember getting in trouble for “talking with the programmer.” I was letting calls go by and not taking them — I worked at the call center department, you see. The floor manager sent me a chat to tell me to stop talking with the programmer and to take some calls.
But he was so hypnotizing, all I wanted was the hear his voice.
I remember that evening thinking, “If there’s someone from work I’m ever going to sleep with, I guess it could be him.” And then I immediately thought, “Why would I think that? What a silly thought to have.”
Well, this one time after work, I passed by the programmer’s side of the office and talked with him.
And then, I, uh, “missed my bus,” so he offered to drive me home.

I told him how I was trying my hand at writing smut. He told me to send him my story; he wanted to read it, and then maybe he could recreate it for me. And he caressed my thigh.
It felt like an electrical current surged through me and I just wanted more!
After a quick “goodnight” and running up the stairs, guess what I did? I sent him my smutty story.
Our First Kiss Took Literally 10 Minutes
That is to say when we actually did kiss.
A few days after the ride home we went on our first date with a walk in the woods. I yearned for him to kiss me all evening.

I stared at him as he stared back intently, his smiling mouth ajar. He leaned towards me while he talked, as though to taunt me, and then pulled back just when I thought my racing heart would thump loudly enough for him to hear it.
Finally, when we were in his car…
He tentatively leaned in towards me, placing a hand on my face, and I closed the distance. Our lips grazed as he pulled back just enough before leaning in again. My breath hitched, and our foreheads touched. I felt that surge again, these energies in my body that tingled every nerve and cell within me. My stomach fluttered every time our lips nearly touched, both of us breathing elatedly, leaning in and out again. I felt like I was having an orgasm just from the energies that effervesced between us.
This lasted for 10 minutes before we finally pressed our lips together for a full kiss.
It was electrifying. I’d never been kissed like that before.

The Serenade
A little more than a month later, we were driving around in his car after a date downtown, and he put on a song. I didn’t know the song or the band at the time. The music was loud enough for us to hear the instrumentals but quiet enough for his voice to be louder than the singer.
Yeah, he sings, and he sings well!
The song was Lady by Styx. He bellowed out beautifully, the verses of the song.
He must’ve rehearsed for hours before because his performance was flawless, his voice was perfect. He was perfect.
I remember listening to that song on repeat after that night. And he sang it to me again a few times in the coming months.
The Apotheosis
My energy was low and my stomach was in knots, and he held me, his warm hands around me. As the song he’d sung to me swelled, he spun me, dancing to the best of his abilities. At that moment, it was just us, though I was acutely aware of everyone who watched us perform our First Dance.

That’s right, that programmer is my husband, my programmer! And Lady had become our song. We danced to it in front of all our loved ones on our Wedding Day.
Of course, the song switched to Duel of the Fates as we segued into our First Lightsaber Fight with our epic Force FX lightsabers before ending with the First Dance again. We had so much fun with that choreography. And let me tell you, the moment I wielded that lightsaber, I was in the zone.

I have been with my programmer, my one true love, for more than 11 years now (with forever years to come), and we’ve been married for more than 8. He keeps wooing me and serenading me, and each kiss is more electrifying than the last.
