It’s become a trending topic on TikTok, but I think this goes beyond Gen Z. Ladies who date men, have you ever experienced “Boyfriend Air?”

When I first moved to NYC, I noticed that I always felt kinda dirty. I always felt the film of the city on me. And this is the best way I can describe “Boyfriend Air.” It’s when you go over to a boyfriend’s house for a while, and you suddenly feel dirty.

And this isn’t just post-sex. It’s just…a film that is on everything. You go to your boyfriend’s house, and your hair suddenly feels more greasy. What is going on? Is his house dirtier? Is it like…you’re leaking more hormones because you’re around a dude? What is the science?

The “boyfriend air” tag now has over 18 million views on the platform. Some women assure upset girlfriends that after a while, it goes away. I guess they get used to it…or make the home cleaner. Who knows.

I remember going to my first boyfriend’s house and just feeling like my hair got more oily by the second. My second boyfriend, I just felt like my skin was never clean, and I could smell my own vagina at all times.

So what is boyfriend air, and do you really get used to it? Get rid of it? Can this be fixed with Pine Sol and candles?

All I know is when I go back to the city, I still notice the thin layer of film…I’ve just gotten better at ignoring it.
