Summary

"Labyrinth Night" is a poem reflecting on a creature's nocturnal journey through a labyrinth under the guidance of celestial bodies.

Abstract

The poem "Labyrinth Night" by Wolfstuff paints a vivid picture of a creature navigating a labyrinthine forest at night, illuminated only by the light of Venus and a fractured moon. The creature, possibly an insect with six or eight legs, moves through a maze of roots and trunks, evading a beast reminiscent of the Minotaur. The narrative weaves together themes of survival, the interplay of light and darkness, and the creature's adeptness in its environment, contrasting with the clumsiness of its predator. The poem concludes with the creature's urgency to complete its journey before the celestial guides wane, hinting at an impending end to its nocturnal advantage.

Opinions

  • The author conveys a sense of gratitude towards Venus and the fractured moon for providing just enough light to navigate the labyrinth, suggesting a deep connection with the natural world and its phenomena.
  • There is a tone of mockery or disdain towards the Minotaur-like beast, which is portrayed as large and dull, incapable of catching the smaller, more agile creature.
  • The creature seems to take pride in its ability to traverse the labyrinth, showing a sense of confidence and self-reliance.
  • The poem implies a critique of human arrogance, with the mention of shipping "them" in from Athens, possibly referring to the beast or other predators, which contrasts with the natural cunning of the creature.
  • The author seems to enjoy the ambiguity of the creature's identity and the beast's true nature, leaving the reader to ponder the true dynamics of the labyrinth at night.

Were it not for Venus and a fractured moon darkness would reign as I scurry six legs over Kafkan roots over mammoth trunks tentacles testing testing testing for deceptions cunning and guile and for this labyrinth Were it not for Venus and a fractured moon these walls could not be seen but see I do I feel them too and thanks Daedalus for nothing is that your Minotaur comes panting Were it not for Venus and a fractured moon he would not cast shadow this beast they call invincible too large to do me harm too dull to even find me Were it not for Venus and a fractured moon I would not have ventured this escape he ran away for larger prey I am no Theseus to be sure and neither am I seven plus seven and I wouldn’t even taste good that’s what I think Six legs or eight serve me well in the pale light of Venus and the fractured moon I hear they’re shipping them in from Athens in the morning Bon Appetite bull headed man or man headed bull tonight the light’s not good too hard to tell Venus is waning and the fractured moon but a sliver I must hurry through the labyrinth tonight © Wolfstuff
