La San Silvestre: A Festive Road Running Event for the Whole Family
Celebrate the end of the year with a fun and active race in cities around the world
A couple of weeks ago, I ran my first road running event, a half marathon. The training leading up to the event was tough, but the sense of accomplishment I felt after crossing the finish line was indescribable.
Now, with the end of the year approaching, I am looking forward to my next road running event: La San Silvestre de Madrid. This popular annual race, which takes place on December 31st, is known for its festive atmosphere and party-like atmosphere, with live music and entertainment provided along the route. Many runners also take the opportunity to dress up in costumes, adding to the fun and excitement of the event.
La San Silvestre is a popular road running event that takes place annually on December 31st in many cities around the world. The race is named after Saint Sylvester, the patron saint of New Year’s Eve, and is typically held in the evening, with runners donning festive costumes and hats as they make their way through the streets.
The origins of La San Silvestre can be traced back to the early 20th century in Madrid, Spain, where it was first held in 1909. The race quickly gained popularity and spread to other cities, with similar events being held in Barcelona, Valencia, and other Spanish cities. Today, La San Silvestre is held in cities all over the world, with runners of all ages and abilities taking part.
La San Silvestre is known for its festive atmosphere and party-like atmosphere, with live music and entertainment often provided along the race route. Many runners also take the opportunity to dress up in costumes, with popular choices including Santa Claus, elves, and reindeer. The event is often used as a way for runners to celebrate the end of the year and kick off the New Year in a fun and active way.
In addition to the fun and festive atmosphere, La San Silvestre also has a charitable aspect, with many events raising funds for various causes. This can include donations to local charities or fundraising for specific causes, such as cancer research or disaster relief efforts. In Madrid, the the fight against childhood cancer and childhood obesity will be the cause of La San Sinvestro.
I am excited to be a part of this iconic race and to experience the energy and camaraderie of running with thousands of other participants. While I am certainly hoping to set a personal best, I am also looking forward to the sense of community and celebration that La San Silvestre brings.
As the year comes to a close, I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in this special event and to start the New Year off on a high note. Whether you are a seasoned runner or new to the sport, I encourage you to consider joining me at La San Silvestre de Madrid and experience the joy and excitement of road running for yourself.
