Kylie Flavell — Why I Love This YouTuber
This woman has changed my life!
If you’ve read me before you know that I’m a little obsessed with Italy. Who wouldn’t be, it’s art, nature, architecture and food heaven! About a year ago I was crushed under a black cloud of COVID fatigue, and that’s when I came across Kylie Flavell on YouTube.
Kylie is an Australian YouTuber who lives in Tuscany with her now-husband Guido. It took me a while to place her accent because it’s very smooth and almost English upper class. Wonderfully soothing to listen to.
This is not some YouTube channel filled with jerky cutoffs, bad sound, and nasty paid promos. Kylie would never! This woman is a perfectionist and also a professional- her background actually is in TV so she knows what she’s doing. Every shot is beautifully filmed, cleverly edited, and full of charm, wit and warmth.
So what’s her angle? Well — everything Italy for starters. She’s been there a while and her channel includes content from years ago — beautiful scenes on the Amalfi coast when she was single, all the way up to and beyond her wedding to Guido in the chapel on his estate in Tuscany. I know, fairytale, right?
I love how her content kind of falls into a few categories. Travel — not just Italy but incredible scenes of Iran and Morocco; Cooking — wonderfully authentic home-cooked food; Language — how to speak Italian; Moving to Italy — how to plan your trip, visa, budget, housing — very detailed! And of course, my favourite series, Renovating A Ruin, or rather a whole selection of ruins.
Guido’s family is clearly old money with the property portfolio to match but since they are old money, not nouveau, it all needs a lot of work and upkeep. Kylie has the most incredible eye and beautiful taste as well as a talent for decorating on a budget. She will turn her hand to anything- completely renovating a bathroom herself, getting good deals on used furniture, carting manure around for the new veggie garden. This woman is no princess.
But that brings me to this point. Don’t be a hater. When you Google her there are a lot of jealous little people out there. Kylie has worked hard to get where she is and she has done all the things we are supposed to do — don’t eat sugar, do exercise, educate yourself — so she’s pretty perfect. Don’t hate that, embrace it.
