Knowing Ourselves as Beings of Light Can Help Us Change the World

Or is that too ‘heavy’ a responsibility?

When the world is too much with me and I feel heavy and dense, I turn to spiritual author~teacher, Don Miquel Ruiz, for uplifting inspiration. In his book, Toltec Prophecies, cowritten by Mary Carroll Nelson, he reminds us that the world we live in is a dream we’re dreaming.

Sometimes it shows up as a nightmare. But the good news is, we can control the dream. The Toltecs prophesize that humanity is headed toward a collective awakening in consciousness and recognition of its creative power.

In the context of this dream, how can I dream or, as I call it, co-create a world with less hatred and more love? Less cruelty to people and the environment, and more stewardship. Less fear and more friendship.

I’m more inclined to pursue this if I don’t feel that the situation is hopeless and I’m powerless. Or that the only way to effect change is to run for office, or start a massive movement. If I believe that change can only be made in the low vibratory density and sluggishness that this human world seems paralyzed by, then I’m exhausted before I even start.

But, when I start from the premise that I am and we all are beings of light, that changes everything. Light after all is of low density and high vibration. And moves at the speed of — well, fast.

I’m not just talking metaphorically.

I’m talking scientifically as well.

In his article, Biophotons: The Human Body Emits, Communicates with, and is Made from Light, Sayer Ji, founder of GreenMedInfo.com addressed this very question. According to Ji, our bodies emit biophotons through our thoughts and intentions. They may assist with cell-to-cell communication and DNA as well.

According to Ji: “Given the sheer insanity of our existential condition, and bodily incarnation as a whole, and considering that our earthly existence is partially formed from sunlight and requires the continual consumption of condensed sunlight in the form of food, it may not sound so farfetched that our body emits light.”

I’d known that photons are units of light that can manifest as both particles and waves. But what are biophotons? Biophotons are basic particles of light found in both the visible and ultraviolet light spectrum, emitted from a biological source.

And we human beings are one such biological source.

So we have biophotons in our cells. We can’t see them because their visibility is 1000 times lower than what our naked eyes can sense. But they are part of the visible electromagnetic spectrum (380–780 nm), detectable with the appropriate instrument.

Scientists believe they’re produced when our cells metabolize energy — as a bi-product of biochemical reactions involving oxygen inside our cells. And if our cells emit light, and we’re are a community of trillions of cooperating cells, it seems logical to conclude we are beings of light. So take a deep breath and exude brilliance!

Biophoton’s Role in Human Intention

Ji sites an article titled “Evidence about the power of intention” in the Portuguese scientific journal, Investigacion Clinical:

“Intention is defined as a directed thought to perform a determined action. Thoughts targeted to an end can affect inanimate objects and practically all living things from unicellular organisms to human beings. The emission of light particles (biophotons) seems to be the mechanism through which an intention produces its effects.” [Bolding mine.]

Could light represent the spiritual power that allows our prayerful intentions to manifest? This study supports what we metaphysicians believe and practice. The article goes on to say:

“Direct intention manifests itself as an electric and magnetic energy producing an ordered flux of photons. Our intentions seem to operate as highly coherent frequencies capable of changing the molecular structure of matter. For the intention to be effective it is necessary to choose the appropriate time.

“In fact, living beings are mutually synchronized to the earth and its constant changes of magnetic energy. It has been shown that the energy of thought can alter the environment. Hypnosis, stigmata phenomena, and the placebo effect can also be considered as types of intention, as instructions to the brain during a particular state of consciousness.

“Cases of spontaneous cures or of remote healing of extremely ill patients represent instances of an exceedingly great intention to control diseases menacing our lives. The intention to heal as well as the beliefs of the sick person on the efficacy of the healing influences promote his healing.”

The writers conclude by validating the study of thought and consciousness, and its significance for Biology and Medicine.

Adding in the Power of Intention

In Toltec Prophesies, Don Miguel Ruiz combines his understanding of Light with the power of intention. According to Ms. Nelson’s foreward, “The solution to the survival of the human race rests with our intention. We can focus our intention to create the vibrant future we desire, individually and collectively.”

This reminds me of that mediation experiment that took place in Washington, D.C. years ago. A group of people spent an hour a day meditating and focusing on peace, for a specified period. It may have been a month. During that time, the city’s violent crime decreased by 25 percent. 25 percent! That’s impressive.

What if everyone who ever thought about or prayed for peace joined that effort in a coordinated way? No doubt the numbers would be even higher. All this to say, it behooves us to fully utilize the incredible power of focused intentions we have as beings of Light.

When Gandhi says, be the change you wish to see, our being of Light allows us to do exactly that.

Ruiz and the Toltecs teach that Light is Spirit and Spriti is Light. According to Toltec Prophecies, we’re now in a period known as the Sixth Sun, which began on January 11, 1992. At that time the vibration of sunlight became faster and gentler, and humans began metabolizing a different quality of energy.

Light is Alive

Toltecs see Light itself as a living biological being, and since we’re all connected directly as well as indirectly to the sun, this Light is the source of our intelligence. The gift of this Light is that it intensifies our creativity, imagination, and intelligence. All of which our troubled world sorely needs.

The book goes on to say, “Our body is light…Our mind is light. Our soul is light in different manifestations. Light perceives light in any of the dimensions. This is why we can perceive with the eyes, but we can also perceive with the mind, with the soul, and with the spirit.”

So we humans are far more than our bodies, minds, and souls. Toltec wisdom teaches that our essence is light itself. And light carries information for Life. Ruz writes, “The DNA in each of our cells is a ray from the sun condensed into matter by Mother Earth.”

And here’s my favorite line in the whole book, “Light is the way stars communicate from one to another, just as light is the one atom communicates with another atom.”

So when Joni Mitchell sings, We are stardust, we are golden,” it’s true. Our essence as light makes it not just a beautiful way to look at our connection with the entire cosmos, but a way to connect with our co-creative powers.

I don’t know about you, but deepening my understanding of how this power works, at the biological as well as metaphorical and metaphysical levels gives me hope and a path forward. It reminds me to cast a vision for a healthy, nourishing, and loving ‘dream’ of life. And to keep my intention focused on the changes I wish to see.

There’s a song in the film version of the musical The Wiz (based on The Wizard of Oz) where the bad witch, Evillene, tells her servant minions, “Don’t Nobody Bring Me No Bad News.” She may not be a metaphysician, but she sure knows how to take dominion of her reality!

The good news is, we can all do the same!
