“Why does a car need intelligence, anyway?” Maria wrinkles her nose at Kit’s dashboard.

“Safety measures.” I pat the wheel. “Kit cares about me, keeps me safe.”

“That’s right, James.” Kit’s voice is sultry and warm. “Please fasten your seatbelt.”

Maria and I belt up and admire the view as Kit drives us down Main Street.

Kit accelerates. Faster. Her engine revs dangerously.

“Hey, slow it down.” I switch to manual, nothing happens. Warning lights flash.

“She’s not good enough for you.”

We hit a wall.

Maria’s airbag doesn’t open.

Kit whispers as my vision darkens.

“I love you, James.”
