Kick Life Where It Hurts
Become a force to be reckoned with.
I know it’s been a while since I wrote an article on Medium. I thought it best to come back with a short refresher on what I think about quitting. I hope you find some value in this:
There is nothing easier than quitting. There is nothing easier than looking at some major feat or aspiration in its face and deeming yourself unworthy or incapable. If the goal of what you are doing is to grow; if the goal is to fulfill your potential; if the goal is to be the best you can be — to achieve, to accomplish, to master — then you must do everything in your power to prove to none other than yourself that the task before you, though outside of your grasp now, does not remain there. Author Marianne Williamson says that “Your playing small doesn’t serve the world”. I believe that if we intend to live out our potential, we must not cower in the face of challenges, especially those that push us that much closer in the right direction: forward. You only feel like quitting because you aren’t good at it. You only feel like quitting because there’s just something you can’t quite figure out. Do you ever feel like quitting when you’re at the peak of your performance? Do you ever feel like quitting when things are easy? Don’t quit when things are hard, fix the problem first and see if you still feel like quitting. I’d wager you won’t end up doing so, and that’s what makes you scary, my friend: That makes you a force to be reckoned with.
