Key to My Heart

Goddess of the Mist

Photo by Bilena S on Unsplash

Long before my eyes could see Life in Hawaii, I longed for the blessings Of the Goddess of Mists.

She called before I knew her name, A force unseen And yet,

There was a beckoning Unto my soul, A longing to answer the call “Come to Me, Hawaii.”

A dream within a dream, Light within the mist, Seen and unseen, Key to my heart.

She danced just Out of sight, With the graceful might Of kaholo feet and haku lei.

One gestured wave Of hula hands and I stepped into the land Of Hawaii Nei.

Years go by She bids me come From makai to mauka I follow

Here within the Forest mists My new home In the hollow.

I daily view the heights Of Mauna O’ Wakea Dwelling of Poli’ahu and Her sister, Lilinoe

Now the mists are Here each day In sun or rain To guide my way.

Kaholo = basic hula step

Haku lei = flower crown

Nei = right here

Makai = the ocean

Mauka = the mountain
