Summary

The website content discusses the concept of a "gratitude jar" as a method for preserving daily reflections of gratitude, inspired by Jonah Paquette's audiobook "Awestruck."

Abstract

The article introduces the practice of using a gratitude jar, a physical container where individuals can place daily notes of things they are thankful for. This idea, inspired by Jonah Paquette's audiobook "Awestruck," suggests an alternative to traditional New Year's resolutions. Instead of creating resolutions, one reviews the notes of gratitude collected throughout the year. The article suggests that while annual reflection is beneficial, the jar can also be reviewed more frequently, such as monthly or weekly, to enhance the experience of gratitude. It also notes that writing multiple gratitude items daily can amplify the positive effects of this practice, which complements the existing habit of gratitude journaling.

Keeping Your Gratitude in a Glass Jar

While listening to Jonah Paquette’s Awestruck on audiobook, I heard a part mention “gratitude jars”. Paquette suggests writing one thing that you feel thankful for each day and putting it in the jar. You then read all of the thoughts you jotted down instead of making resolutions at the beginning of a year.

This is an excellent idea, but I think one could also look in a gratitude jar more frequently than that. You might, instead, check it monthly or even weekly. It would also be fine to write more than one thing you appreciate each day to put in the jar.

Gratitude journaling is already uplifting, but keeping a gratitude jar on top of that sounds even better.
