How to use the Job Hunter Google Sheets template
There are two tabs:
- Tracker where you track job applications
- Dashboard that shows you the total number of jobs you applied to as well as the status of all your applications
Let’s take a quick look at each.
Tracker tab
The dummy data in the Tracker tab serves as an example.
Select rows A to H and rows J to N. Delete the dummy data, and you’re all set to start tracking your applications. Column I has a formula in it, so we’re not touching that column.
Column D has the values:
- Remote
- Hybrid
- On-site
Above column C, there’s a +- button. Click it to hide column D, should you need to. It makes no sense to select “Remote” from the dropdown menus each time if you’re only after remote jobs.
Those dropdown menus in column D? Feel free to edit them.
Open a dropdown menu. Then, click on the pen icon to edit the items.
Moving on to columns H to L with the dates. For starters, we can track:
- Due date to apply by
- Days left to apply. The cells in this column have the formula =IF(H3<>””, DATEDIF(NOW(),H3,”MD”), “”). This means: If cell H3 is not empty, write the difference between today’s date and the date in field H3, and write it out in days. Otherwise, write nothing or an empty string “”.
- Date you applied
- Date confirmation referring to the day you received an email reading somethign along the lines of, “We have received your application. Please sit tight as we plow our way through the pile.”
- Date latest reply from either you or the company
Pro tip: Insert today’s date with this keyboard shortcut:
- Mac: Command + ;
- PC: Control + ;
Now. Column M with statuses has some pre-filled dropdown menu items. Feel free to edit those to what you prefer.
And the final column leaves space for you to leave a note as to why you got rejected or why you pulled yourself from the application process.
Dashboard tab
I kept this simple. The dashboard currently shows:
- The total number of jobs you applied for
- And a bar chart showing how far each application made it into the job-acquiring process
Final words
I hope you get the job that exceeds your salary expectations, that you’ll work with kind colleagues in a supportive and nurturing environment where you deepen your skills and do great work.
And have fun in the process.
Good luck with job hunting! I hope this template supports you on your quest.
