Just Your Regular Friday in 2040

Let’s imagine how would our just another Friday look like in 20 years

We know that the IoT is not just a buzzword and AI is already revolutionizing our world. But do know how exactly? I’m sure we know that many industries will change, yeah. But what about our personal world?

Remember the time when the Internet was introduced?

What was nothing more than a growing phenomenon has quickly become an essential part of our normality. We had no idea how exactly our personal lives will change.

Last week I’ve read around 150+ articles on IoT, AI and smart home application. Now, the image of my future routine starts to be shaped out by itself.

I believe that the smart home will enter its mass-market stage earlier than in 2040, but it still will be perceived as something out of the ordinary. I am not a futurist, but I’d like to think that by 2040 AI assistants together with the smart home system and self-driving cars will be a regular part of every household.

Here I’d like to imagine how our typical Friday will look like in 20 years from now.

It’s 7.00 am and it’s your time to wake up.

Your AI assistant knows your morning routine. It already connected with your smart home appliances and have already “woken up” the house.

Your playlist is on.

Your coffee is already waiting for you in the AI-powered coffee machine. The smell of the coffee is mixing with the smell of your favourite croissants, that are ready to collect. Your 3D oven printer has already “printed” your favourite croissants for breakfast.

Your AI assistant gives you audio updates on the weather, your personal schedule for today, the recent messages and important news. Usually, at 7.30 am you enjoy a 30-min workout session with your friends via a virtual meeting. Your AI assistant already knows your morning routine. You put your VR (Virtual Reality) glasses while the meeting is already on.

After your morning workout, you are ready to go straight to work (I’m assuming there will be workspaces in the future). You ask your virtual wardrobe to choose the best outfit for you for today since it seems to be raining outside. The virtual wardrobe analyses the current weather and the forecast for the day to suggest a perfect outfit for today. Your smart mirror virtually dresses you in the suggested outfit. You accept the suggestion and dress up in already washed and ironed clothes. It’s hard for you to remember how have you lived without a water-free laundry unit.

You leave your home.

There is no concept of the keys in our future homes. Also, there are no switches, buttons and other elements of the “ancient home”. The home security locks and unlocks the door via the Face ID. Everything else is regulated via your voice and with the help of a smart home system.

Your self-driving car is already waiting for you next to the door. Similar to an AI assistant, your car already knows your schedule.

In 20 mins it’s already at your office’s doors.

You get out and enter the building. Your car parks itself on the designated parking place.

Today you have to finish a report for Monday’s presentation.

Your AI assistant helps you with the most boring and time-consuming part of the work.

It collects the necessary data, statistics, communicates with the company AI assistants and finalizes the report. In the meantime, you polish up your presentation and focus on the tasks that cannot be automated.

At the end of the day, you’ve decided to get some drinks with your friends.

Based on your and your friends’ preferences, your AI assistants have already narrowed down the choice to 2 very nice bars.

You discuss these 2 options with your colleagues and choose one.

You accept a suggestion and your AI assistant will book a table. Based on the geolocation data, your AI assistant can quickly predict the exact time of your arrival to the bar.

It’s midnight and you’ve already had a couple of drinks. You let your AI assistant know that you would like to go home.

By the time you take your coat and say goodbyes, your car is already waiting for you at the exit.

Your intelligent assistant controls not only your car but also your domotics. It analyses the weather outside and monitors the comfortable temperature inside your home.

It’s November now and outside it’s -5 degrees, pouring rain and pretty freezing. Although the weather is not that great, you are in a great mood.

Your AI assistant has already regulated the warmer temperature for you and created a special “welcome home” atmosphere. The sensors that analyse your emotional state help your home to fully adapt to your mood.

When you enter your home, you see that the light is dimmed, the electric fireplace is on and your favourite tracks are quietly playing in the background. Everything is just as you like it.

It’s 1 am and your Friday has finished. You tell your house a “good night” command and AI assistant switches your home into a night regime.
