Just Focus

Poem

The news, the weather, the endless distractions over the past few weeks have put me in an interesting place. So many words and images and electronic devices all demanding attention, all seemingly “talking” at once. I believe the words of this poem provided a little relief. 😊

Hold steady on that thought and listen to what’s being said don’t look away, don’t close your eyes look straight ahead and just focus.

Turn off the music, mute the TV, your mother is talking, she’s been trying to say, please, look into her eyes and just focus.

Your friends are all talking but you don’t hear the words, their heads are all moving but it sounds all absurd

There’s giggles and “like” and “you know what I mean”, but you don’t and you can’t and you won’t until they all take a breath and just focus

The dogs are all barking, the cat’s in the tree, your two-year old spray-painted the Plasma TV; your Mom’s on the phone, your Dad’s in a snit

Your daughter is shattered she found a new zit; your cell phone stopped working, your car on the fritz, your husband’s on Prozac and still in the pits

The sounds are all swirling, your visual’s impaired- your brain sounds a warning, the end is soon near, but hey it could be worse — you’re still alive just take a deep breath and focus
