Just Five More Minutes!

The snooze button of life

You are sound asleep, snuggled warmly under the covers enjoying a wonderfully delicious dream.

And then the alarm clock goes off!

What do you do? Do you immediately bolt out of bed, turn off the alarm clock and then proceed with your new day? (Probably forgetting all about your dream.)

Or do you reach over to your beside table and hit the snooze button on your alarm clock so that you can get five more minutes before you get up? Do you then go immediately back to sleep, trying to get back into that dream?

Or do you not use alarm clocks? Perhaps you prefer to wake up naturally whenever you happen to wake up. Perhaps you do not have an early morning job that you must be sure to get to on time. Perhaps you follow natural rhythms and prefer to wake up in a soft and gentle way free of alarm and free of any connection to the illusion of linear time.

It has been said that life is like a dream. Some say that our physical lives are not nearly as physical as we think they are. Some even suggest that our physical lives are nothing but a holographic image; that we are just an avatar in a video game being played by some God gamer. Is the real us the one in the video game or are we the one playing it? Is our life a dream that we are dreaming?

If our life is indeed a dream that our real self is dreaming then we must realize that all dreams come to an end, right?

So how do you want your dream to end? Do you want to be awakened by a loud, blaring alarm clock? And if so, would you hit the snooze button to get just five more minutes of your dream before ‘waking up?’ Would you keep hitting the snooze button every five minutes to extend your dream as long as you can? How many times can we keep hitting the snooze button?

Or would you prefer to awaken in a soft and gentle way? Naturally whenever it happened? No alarm, no noise; just the slow and peaceful opening of the eyes?

How do you want to ‘wake up’ from the dream of your life?
