Jung Yi is a story about the First Female Korean Potter in the Joseon dynasty. Jung Yi’s character is based on a real historical figure, Baek Pa Sun. According to Gimhae, she was later captured by Japanese invaders around 1592–1598.

Jung Yi is played by Moon Geun Young, Kim Bum, and Lee Sang Yoon. Even though it was played by many famous actors, the drama failed to achieve a high rating during its time. I felt like this drama is so underrated because it has a great story plot even though it was full of tragic, sad, angst, and tear-jerking moments. All of the characters had heartbreaking background stories, and they successfully delivered the emotion well.

Plot

It began with a political intrigue where a young woman’s life was in danger as she was pregnant with the Head of Royal Potter’s baby in her womb. She was chased off by the assassin. After suffering from a significant attack by the assassin, she had to give birth to the child inside a kiln. In her dying moment, she gave her child to her male friend — Yoo Eul Dam — and made a promise to him to ensure that the baby girl became the best female potter in Joseon. And thus, that is how Jung Yi came into the world and started her journey of hardships to become the first female potter in Joseon.

Characters

Jung Yi, the main character, is played by Moon Geun Young. She nailed this character. At times, I found her annoying because she was really stubborn with her decision causing numerous dangerous events that harmed her and her loved ones. However, she also great at showing the viewers with her sincere and high effort as a hardworking female poter.

The Crown prince is portrayed by Lee Sang Yoon. He also did great in this work. He is capable of showing great leadership even though he had many things to handle on his plate. I empathized with his character because he had to deal with many sly royalties inside the place who tried to bring him down. He had no one to turn to besides Jung Yi. He looked strong but actually broke inside.

Last but not least, Kim Tae Do, is played by Kim Bum. I was stunned when I watched his performance in Goddess of Fire. His eyes were blasting sadness emotion as a second male lead. The only thing that I didn’t like about his character is that he shared the same breast milk with the female lead, making him his foster brother. That didn’t feel right to me.

Original Sound Track

They have several Original Sound Track. However, these are the OST that I like the best from the drama. If you try to hear it, you can feel the singer’s voice piercing through your heart.

  • Noel — Tears Flow
  • Bobby Kim — Forever You
  • Baek Ah Yeon — Tears Are Also Love

If I should give this drama rating. It would be 7.5/10. It was hard to watch and traumatizing because of the story plot. You will like this drama if you watch it for the first time, but I doubt you will want to rewatch it.
