Juliet, I Wrote You A Letter

A prayer for love (Letters Before Bali)

“There are those who love too little, those who love too long, those who do it with many tears and those without a sigh.” — Oscar Wilde

Personal photo of the author

When I traveled to Venice and Verona last year in December, something changed inside me.

I love that about travelling, as I already said it in my #writerspotlight to Globetrotters publication.

I was so amazed by everything, I was in constant awe, deeply connected with everything I saw.

I was present in the present moment and everything felt like a gift.

So, when I arrived at Casa di Giulietta, the moment I entered the room dedicated to letters I had a strong feeling of love for everyone.

But I didn’t have the time to stay and write about what I was experiencing.

I did it later, on a special day dedicated to love and lovers, and you can now read it below.

This is my letter to Juliet, this is my prayer for love. And we don’t need a special day to feel loved, don’t we?

Or (#spoileralert) to eat or dream about gelato.

14-Feb. 2022

Carra Giulietta,

Today, almost everywhere in the world, Valentine’s Day is celebrated.

So, I think I have chosen a good time to write this letter.

It is a letter that I thought I would write to you last year when I visited Romeo & Juliet’s house in Verona.

Ah, that moment when I entered the room dedicated to letters gave me a feeling like I was in a movie.

Yes, of course, all I had in mind was the movie Letters to Juliet. It is one of my favorite movies and I can watch it two-three times a year (maybe I’ll go to watch it again after I finish writing you).

For now, let’s go back to the room bathed in the light of the midday sun as it was the middle of June and not a slightly cold day of December.

I would have loved in that moment to sit down at one of those vintage computers and to write you. And then to wait for your answer, through the voices of your helpers.

Unfortunately, we were passing through Verona and I didn’t have time to dream about fairytales.

Well, I must be honest till the end and share one of the reasons for which I didn’t have time: gelato.

Mi scuzzi but I really had to eat gelato from Venchi.

My travel partner and dear friend Lorelai insisted that this is one of the best gelatos in Europe. And it was really close to your house so I had to check if she was right.

Yeah, you can see below how fascinated I was by my choice of flavours and yet I can’t remember what I had chosen — maybe mango, maybe vanilla, maybe something with chocolate.

Either way, what I know is that I devoured it even if it was a bit too icy (and the second day my throat was suffering). So please be kind and forgive my appetite.

Now that you have forgiven me, we can continue our dreamy romantic conversation.

Because, as you can see, today time is a friend for you and me.

Maybe you will think that I want to ask you something for my love story.

I guess that’s what people in love do when they leave you letters, right?

But I would like to dare a little more, to change the story and ask you something different.

  • I want to ask you to watch over the couples who have been in love for many years, send them a living flame so that they remember where they started and value each other more.
  • If possible, please also watch over single people who are looking for their soulmate and give them a little hope. Someone, somewhere — in this big world, dreams of their meeting.
  • And if I dare a bit more, please bless those who suffer from love stories that are not right for them with forgiveness, courage, and self-love.

Ah, I have one last request and I promise to stop.

Warm the hearts of those who come to Verona seeking healing from you.

Take them to the streets, give them a sunset to cherish, offer them a smile through a stranger.

Bring them into the present to remember, even if only for a few moments, that they are enough. They are good enough, sensitive enough, special enough, loving enough.

Remind them, through a wind-whispered poem, that they are loved.

That’s it for now.

Thank you, I’ll write to you sometime in the future…maybe in that sun-loving room.

Con amore,

S.

Sweet note:

If you like this story, you can read some more below and if you really like those too, you can buy me a coffee so I can keep the creativity high.

Thank you so much.

P.s: for the curious ones, all photos (only the selfie and the photo with the Giulietta statue are made by my friend) are captured by me with my iPhone and edited in Ps Express.
