Julian Lennon, son of John Lennon, who once swore he’d never perform his father’s anti-war ballad “Imagine,” found himself driven to do it for Global Citizen’s social media rally, Stand Up For Ukraine, which is working to raise money for that country after Russia’s brutal invasion.
“The War on Ukraine is an unimaginable tragedy… As a human, and as an artist, I felt compelled to respond in the most significant way I could,” Lennon wrote when he posted the video on YouTube.
Lennon, surrounded by candles in a dark room, was accompanied by Nuno Bettencourt on guitar.
“As a result of the ongoing murderous violence, millions of innocent families, have been forced to leave the comfort of their homes, to seek asylum elsewhere,” Lennon continued, calling on everyone to stand up and donate to assist refugees everywhere.
