Julia Roberts Made a Huge Impact on my Love Life
And I am not talking only about her movie characters ❤

The beautiful and talented Julia Roberts has been a favorite of mine for such a long time! Interestingly enough, one of my favorite movies with her in it is Satisfaction, which was released in 1988. She wasn’t even the headliner of the movie! But her star quality shown through from the beginning.
Character Roles That Shaped my Love Life
Vivian Ward
Of course, her role as Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman is what shot her straight to the A-list in Hollywood. And with good reason! She basically played a hooker with class. The movie starts out with her on the streets of Hollywood, trying to survive with her best friend. They were both prostitutes, but Vivian was a prostitute with standards. She didn’t do drugs, she didn’t kiss on the lips (because it was too personal), and she flossed her teeth after strawberries and champagne.
We get to see her grow into herself emotionally throughout the movie as she interacts with Richard Gere’s character Edward Lewis. Towards the end of the movie, the audience is rewarded with Vivian taking a stand against Edward and not taking him up on his offer. As Vivian says in the movie “I want it all.”
This character made an impact on my love life by showing women that we deserve more than having men treat us like prostitutes (i.e., they pay for things for us in exchange for sex). We are worthy of being loved and respected for who we are, not just what we can give them. We can have it all!
Julianne Potter
Co-starring with Cameron Diaz in My Best Friend’s Wedding, Julia Roberts’ character Julianne plays down and dirty to try to win back the heart of her best friend Michael, played by Dermot Mulroney. She tries every trick she can think of to beat out Kimberly (Cameron Diaz) because she is feeling so desperate. Her efforts fail, and her best friend marries his true love.
How did this character affect my love life? Her character dug deep into how blinded we can get when we feel like we are losing something or someone important to us. In the end, she finally wakes up and realizes that she wants her best friend Michael to be happy.
You know it’s love when all you want is that person to be happy, even if you’re not part of their happiness. — Julia Roberts
Now when I feel like I am losing my grip on someone close to me, I mentally force myself to step back and look at the big picture. Am I being selfish in my actions? What will truly make this important person in my life happy? If it is letting my grip loosen so they can spread their wings, then so be it. In the end, we both end up much happier with the outcome.

The Real Julia Roberts
Her marriage and children
Julia Roberts and Danny Moder have been married since July of 2002, and they have 3 children — twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 15, and Henry, 12. They have done an excellent job of keeping their children out of the limelight, trying to raise them as privately as possible. Being a famous couple, they certainly have weathered their fair share of paparazzi drama. After almost 2 decades, they still persevere.
I believe that two people are connected at the heart, and it doesn’t matter what you do, or who you are or where you live; there are no boundaries or barriers if two people are destined to be together. — Julia Roberts
I am impressed by movie stars that are able to keep their personal lives private, and don’t do things to monetize their children’s notoriety because of who their parents are. So many celebrities use their children to bring attention to themselves, and I think that is wrong. Children deserve better than that from their parents. Julia and Danny have mastered this!
Her Friendships
Julia has been able to remain close friends with some of her co-stars, including Dermot Mulroney from My Best Friend’s Wedding, and Richard Gere from Pretty Woman. She has also remained close with Tom Hanks after appearing in Larry Crowne and Charlie Wilson’s War with him.
I believe her most well-known friendship is with Denzel Washington, which was formed during the filming of Pelican Brief. I remember watching the 2002 Academy Awards when Julia had the privilege of announcing that Denzel won for best actor for his role in Training Day. She was so passionately happy for her friend!
I cannot absorb living in a world where I have an Oscar for best actress and Denzel doesn’t have one for best actor. — Julia Roberts
She has taught me that we can form life-long friendships with people we work with. Working with another person in a deep and meaningful way can reap tremendous benefits. I have 2 remarkably close life-long friends that I connect with genuinely, and I am grateful to have them in my life.
