Journalling and Self-reflection

I’ve been journaling for what is it now… four days… and I have already discovered quite a few things about myself and I kinda feel that I jump-started my creativity. It’s been only four days and I am f***ing asking myself why I haven’t started doing this earlier. Why do people don’t do this regularly? It really helps makes sense of what you experience and digest what you go through in a day.
Reflection, I think, is a process that brings to your awareness things that I believe have the potential of improving your life. And, heck, you don’t know what you think about something unless you’ve thought about it.
A lot of the times you do something a particular way, you act a certain way, just because that’s how you’ve always done it. And why would you ever change that — even if it doesn’t feel right — if you can’t think of a good reason to do it and a better alternative? When you act in this way habitually, you get the feeling of powerlessness. Because it’s not you who decided to act that particular way. It was habit, automatism, your emulation of other people’s behaviour when you were little.
However, when you reflect on your day, on your behaviour, on what is bothering you at that time, you give yourself the opportunity to come up with a better alternative. Then YOU get to decide, not chance, not habit, not other people. And this is extremely powerful and I think this is the starting point of confidence. You have thought about it, you have decided and then you act with confidence because it is an informed choice to act in that particular way.
