My daughter asks me all the time my favorite colors, fruits, food, shows, and sports. I struggle to answer every time. I am the type of person with many things I like, but very few things that stand out as favorites.
Today, I took some time to think back to movies and books I have read to see what stands out.
There is the young adult book about a chunky preteen that was bigger than her friends. When her best friend moved away, she sent her inspirational quotes to place on the frig. I will never forget this one
“A moment on the lips, forever on the hips”.
I kept the quotes on my bulletin board for years.
I am an 80s kid that came of age with John Hughes movies. My favorite movie in my teen years was “Some Kind Of Wonderful”. I really related Mary Stuart Masterson’s character, a tomboy that realizes she has feelings for her best friend. I often felt like I was watching the relationships happen around me, wishing I had the same.
From there on out, I watched Mary Stuart Masterson perform in a variety of films. When I was in college, she played a wonderful character in “Benny & Joon”.
One song in that film remains one of my all-time favorites. It really gets me moving and puts a smile on my face “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers.
I still remember the feeling that came over me when students blasted the song while playing sand volleyball outside my dorm.
For as long as I can remember, I have always enjoyed books and movies about real people trying to deal with challenges.
Today I like Biographies (ideally comedic). I have always liked case studies too.
I am not much of a self-help or business mindset reader, but I am reading one book right now that has been really eye opening.

Never in my life have I wanted to read a book again and I know that this time, I want to.

A few years back as a new mom, I was looking for rhyming books to read to my child. There were two books that I bought that were special to me and thus my daughter cherishes them too. She can now read them herself which is wonderful to see. One was called “Time For A Hug”. It taught the time as it relates to the activities of the day.
The other one is called “I Love You All The Time”. I especially love this one for the message it teaches.
Even if I am busy or not home, know that I love you.

My Favorite Books For Children In Our Home Library
For as long as I can remember, my daughter has wanted me by her side at bedtime. Last night, I was too distracted and when I got to her, she had fallen asleep on her own.
While I have dreamed of her growing comfortable with falling asleep on her own (my back can’t wait), I felt so guilty for being distracted. I apologized and explained to her what happened. I know that thanks to books like “I Love You All The Time” she knows that she is loved.
