Joining Medium Has Benefited Me In Many Ways
It was worth a try
I joined Medium in April 2021. On May 10th, I published my first story on Medium. Since then, eight months passed by. Looking back, I can’t believe that I have read and written regularly for such a long time. Although I can’t live by reading and writing, Medium did benefit me a lot.
1. Helps me to develop the habit of reading
Everyone is a book. The writers on medium come from all over the world. Reading their stories not only allows you to understand different cultures and customs but also resonates with you and inspires you.
Their writings have different styles, some are unrestrained and passionate; some are gentle and delicate, and others are poetic and picturesque. Every reading is a feast of words and visions.
Over time, I found stories that suit my interests and tastes. More often, these stories bring me new perspectives and wisdom, nourish my soul, and expand my vision.
2. Helps me to develop the habit of writing
Originally, I planned to write 1 story a week but ended up with 2–3.
I am thankful for many editors who are very enthusiastic, giving me many opportunities and greatly activating my writing cell. Some of them accept even the short form of 150 words. This makes writing easier and also has increased my output.
A friend of mine said that writing has a healing effect. I feel the same way. By writing my own experiences, I had to re-examine and review my past, which forced me to re-evaluate history, related persons, and myself to draw new conclusions.
Writing has taught me to be grateful so that I could discover more beauty in life that I ignored before.
3. Helps me to make friends on Medium
When I first came to Medium, I read something beautiful on a post.
“Here you will engage with many writers. First of all, they are just names, but over time, they become friends.”
Just like lights are the language of a car on the street, claps, highlights and comments become common tools on the internet. These tools express interest, concern, and appreciation for others, thus connecting writers on medium.
It took me a little time to get used to the unique style, but once I was familiar with these tools, I started to build a relationship with this community.
Here I met lots of amazing writers and have also learned a lot from them. They are my new friends with whom I have communicated even more than with my friends in the reality.
To conclude:
Joining Medium has changed my life, cultivated new habits of reading and writing, and allowed me to meet and connect with writers across the oceans, opening up my horizons and enriching my life.
Medium is now my spiritual home. Many platforms become my family. Lots of writers give me great supports.
The decision I made eight months ago was correct and it was worth a try.
Thank you Pene Hodge for publishing my story on her wonderful platform our Souls in Words.
