Hello DEP editors,

Good morning! Just wanted to reach out to you — I hadn’t planned on submitting an essay for the AI vs HI anthology, but just saw Dr. Gabriela’s post about poems also being considered for the anthology. Apologies if this letter is past the due date, but I wasn’t aware earlier that poetry would be okay, and I’m hoping I’ll still be able to participate.

Per the submission guidelines, I’m submitting a letter of intent about wanting to be a part of this anthology — my personal project for 2024 is “Author Versus AI,” where I challenge (and hopefully inspire other authors) with the concept that writers might be a bit slower than AI in creating a book, but much, much better. Starting on Global Book Day (April 23), I’ll be writing a book a week in all genres. I plan to have NO AI in my project at all — the book covers will be designed by actual artists, who will be paid fair value for their work, and the words will all be written by me.

I’m mentioning this because I feel very strongly about the concept of human creativity. Creativity is a highly personal endeavor, and stealing other authors’ creativity (brought to light with the lawsuits from authors against AI companies that used their work without permission or compensation to train their algorithm) or bypassing human creativity altogether is a battle worth fighting, and a subject that is near and dear to my heart.

I’d like to submit a poem celebrating human creativity. If this would be okay and something you’d like to see, please let me know.

Thanks so much!

All best,

Alison
