Longform, Shortform, what about Midform?!
Sometimes cramming your story into 150 words falls just short of perfect. But expanding it into a detailed longform piece dilutes your real message.
Let’s meet halfway and showcase our interesting stories in 3 minutes (700 words or less).
Fuss less about the number of words and fuss more about getting one important message across.
Only 3 Easy Rules:
- 700 words or less: includes the entirety of the article including photo captions, embedded links and writer blurbs at the end — use Ctrl+A to check when editing.
- Let’s be professional: Format your Title and Subtitle properly (big T and small T), add photo credits and check your grammar.
- Add a Key Message at the end and format it by clicking the quote button twice like so:
Key Message: [Insert 1–3 sentences about the key message of your story. The more concise, the better!]
Topics:
Almost anything goes! This is intended to be an open-topic publication.
The only topics that will be declined are ones that violate the Medium Rules.
Join Us:
It’s easy-peasy — just pop a comment in this article with your Medium @ handle and one sentence along the lines of “I think your 3 rules are great.”

The intention of this publication is to never close to new writers. We will always accept you with open arms. When we get bigger, the solution is to add more editors to keep the flow going.
Publishing:
The target is a 24-hour turnaround to publish or comment with a private note. We’ve already established ourselves as a speedy editing crew so you’ll often be published even within a few hours.
Make sure you have private notes turned on and respond to any feedback within a day. Otherwise we may have to send your piece back to keep our queue clean :)
Please note that we will not edit your piece. We expect you to do a final proofread and follow the 3 rules above.
