I believe that good writing can change peoples’ lives and have a significant impact. That’s why I’ve created one of the biggest writing contests on Medium ever!

You can join the writing contest by following these 4 steps:
- ✍️ Write your story.
- 📎 Include a link to this contest at the end of your story.
- 📪 Submit your story to the Wake. Write. Win. publication (Join here).
- 💬 Leave a comment including a link to your story on this contest.
I will add all participating stories to a list after they are published and included in the comments of this contest.
“How are you making this world a better place?”
The world is in flames.
Never before, it feels like, have there been so many crises. Climate change is threatening our planet. Thousands of people have to die in wars or flee from their homes. Radical political parties are taking over politics in many of the world's countries.
Meanwhile, people are more sick, lonely, and depressed than ever before. Many feel that our world is slowly fading as more and more of our lives are happening in front of screens. In a world that has never been so connected, we feel disconnected.
But we are here to change that.
We write and share our beautiful voices because we believe there is hope. As writers, we want to inspire, provide value and connect.
Medium is a platform for building connections and fostering growth as a community, which we are here to embrace.
We are here to make an impact!
➡️ We are looking for stories related to the question: “How are you making this world a better place?”
📚 We love diversity! So we’re looking forward to reading both fiction and non-fiction, prose, scientific articles, essays, poetry, satire, short stories, reportages, and anything between and beyond.
💥You can have a positive impact on the world in a lot of ways! When I first thought about the question of how I would make this world a better place, I couldn’t think of anything. But then, after some reflection, hundreds of (little) things came to mind. Let us know about your little (or big) things!
Here’s an example of what this could look like (not necessarily a good one): “I Write Letters To Strangers And Post Them In The Streets”
- 👓 After April 30, we will carefully read all the stories submitted. (Remember: They have to be both submitted to this publication, and a link has to be posted in the comments of this contest)
- 📜 We will write comments for every story, giving you our honest feedback and telling you what we liked about your story.
- 🏅 We will then select our first, second, third, fourth, and fifth favorite stories, write an article about why we’ve chosen those stories, and send the winners their prizes (via PayPal or normal bank transfer)
🔎 Our criteria:
- How well is your story written?
- Is your story inspiring?
- How much of your personality and experience shines through your story?
🚫 What we’re not looking out for:
- How big your actual impact is (the impact of your story matters, not the impact of your experience).
- How many views/reads/claps your story has.
- How long your story is.
What can you win?
- 💰 Cash: The best 5 stories will be awarded a cash prize. 1st prize: $100 | 2nd prize: $80 | 3rd prize: $60 | 4th prize: $40 | 5th prize: $20
- 🔦 Exposure: We will do all we can to get as many eyeballs as possible on the winners’ stories. They will get pinned to our publication page, shared in our Discord server, and included in our newsletter.
- 🫂 New friends: We’re not just a publication — we’re a community. Joining this writing contest is like shouting “Hey, I’m here!” to everyone in the community. I’m sure you’ll make some friends along the way.
- ✒️ Writing experience: Whether you’re new to writing or an old stager — submitting your stories might give you a little push outside your comfort zone and teach you some new things.
There are not many rules to follow. You are telling your story, so you are setting the rules!
❗ Just a few important things to watch out for:
- You can write and submit as many individual stories as you’d like.
- Your stories can be any genre.
- Your stories have to be on-topic (“How are you making this world a better place?”)
- Your stories have to include a link to this contest at the end.
- You can submit your stories as drafts or previously self-publish them and then submit them to our publication.
- Make sure to follow the Medium rules.
