It’s a good platform

It is surprising how many people use Medium.

Since I am new to Medium and had never heard of it until a couple of months ago, I was surprised to discover that there are so many people on Medium, some rich and famous. It was also surprising to see elected officials on Medium as well.

According to Wikipedia, Medium is an online publishing platform. It was developed by Evan Williams, who is a co-founder of Twitter and Blogger. Medium was launched in 2012. I don’t know why I never heard of it until 2020.

Lots of people had heard of it and got involved with Medium over the past eight years since it started. The site apparently has close to 100 million monthly readers. Anyone can join for $5 a month to read unlimited content from the millions of articles/posts which are added on a regular basis. People can sign up for free to read three stories a month without charge.

Medium has a collection of professional writers along with a lot of amateurs. It also contains publications, which are exclusive blogs or publishers for which people apply to join.

I just happened to run across Joe Biden’s name as I put him into a search on Medium. I was surprised that he is a member of Medium. I decided to check on some other names that I could think of to see if they were members also.

Most of the writers on Medium have something they want to share with others. Although it is likely that the politicians and the others who are rich and famous have ghost writers or staff who do the writing for them, it is interesting that they use Medium as a platform to share their messages. There is a large potential audience of readers on Medium.

Although there are some Medium stories which indicate that the program may not last, for now it seems to be very good for writers. It is just too bad we don’t have enough time to read more of the thousands of stories available.
