Finding Voice Through the Written Word

It is no secret that words have had a complex power over me during my life. As a Korean adoptee growing up in Denmark, I felt the sting of their taunts and became aware of their insults as a young child — taunts that would deepen my sense of not belonging and break apart a still-forming identity.
Despite this, they also offered something else: a path toward healing and self-discovery that came with time. The discipline of writing has only recently become my focus despite being a lifelong supporter of the written word.
In many ways, my work emerges from my struggles with depression and anxiety — struggles that some are familiar with.
It delves into quests for belonging, the desperate need for mental health support, and the relentless demand for a world that truly understands and embraces individuals who struggled like I did.
This desire for action, for turning pain into progress, drew me to Medium. Witnessing others boldly share their truths lit a spark, a call to find my voice. That journey inspired “Alone in Seoul” — an entrepreneurial project committed to shattering silences around adoptee experiences and providing tangible pathways to support.
To anyone hesitant to put pen to paper — start.
Your words, no matter how raw, might resonate with a soul feeling just as lost. There is power in your truth.
Write to understand yourself, write to heal, write to ignite change — one word at a time.
