Jernee for My Journey
A Free Verse Poem

We strap ourselves in for a ride about town A trip to get her nails Dremeled — the sun kisses her sweet face and I stop to gaze upon the aging process as life decides once again to be kind to us.
I think of a partner — woman or man, someone to watch me watch this furry bundle of goodness in action But will one ever appear? We are alone but we aren't lonely, at least, not today.
I have written to my future partner, I have told them about her. I think of them as my radio calms and soothes both of us. She sits next to me soaking up the Vitamin D I struggle to maintain We are a package deal, there is a price.
He will be able to pay it. She will not balk at it. This US is non-negotiable and we get better with time. We want to find our perfect match; one right for me, one right for her: our favorite person is what we'd call them.
I watch the sun glide in the sky, its yellow hue hovers over my car. Jernee squints her browns, I bat mine and hold a hand up as a shield. We flow into an afternoon with open arms and an open heart.
It's the little things in life — the pleasures I've come to love while we wait for the one love made just for us. Jernee for my Journey, an experience far more memorable than the things I used to write about.
