Jenner Talks About Wealthy Friends Leaving California
She is running for governor
She had an interview in her airplane hangar
By now it is well known that Caitlyn Jenner is making a bid to become the California governor, assuming a recall against Governor Gavin Newsom. She was already famous as a rich and successful former Olympic athlete as well as being part of the Kardashian Family. She has made a name for herself as she changed her gender and chose a new name.
She has never held an elective office, but she is running as a Republican candidate.
Jenner says that her wealthy friends are leaving California in droves because of the large number of homeless people in the state.
An article in POLITICO by Quint Forgey was entitled: “He was packing up his hangar: Jenner says wealthy Californians are moving to avoid the homeless.” The article states:
The remarks from Jenner came in her first major media appearance since announcing her gubernatorial bid last month: a sit-down interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, conducted in Jenner’s own Malibu-area hangar.
“My friends are leaving California,” Jenner said. “Actually, my hangar, the guy across … he was packing up his hangar. I said, ‘Where are you going?’ And he says, ‘I’m moving to Sedona, Arizona. I can’t take it anymore. I can’t walk down the streets and see the homeless.’”
“I don’t want to leave,” Jenner added. “Either I stay and fight, or I get out of here.”
Jenner’s complaints about her friends’ exodus from California were criticized by some on social media as tone-deaf and unhelpful to her developing campaign…
The comments also seemingly undercut GOP efforts to portray Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is facing a recall election, as an elite career politician who remains out of touch with the state’s residents amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Jenner and other Republicans have particularly sought to highlight Newsom’s attendance last November at a multi-person birthday dinner at California’s upscale French Laundry restaurant, as Newsom was urging constituents to stay home and avoid congregating in groups. [Politico]
Is Jenner trying to look like a non-elite type of person? Having an interview from your private airplane hangar seemingly does not help that image.
Homelessness is a huge problem throughout the entire United States and in other parts of the world as well. California has some of the wealthiest people living there. Perhaps some of the wealthy could use a little more of their money to help those who are less fortunate.
There are so many homeless people who should not be homeless. Although there are shelters and programs trying to help them, hundreds of thousands in the USA are still out there without a roof over their heads. It is a sad situation where wealthy people could help.
Does Jenner want to fight against the homeless [comment in the interview] or help them? Has Jenner talked about ways that she would help alleviate the problem of homelessness if she were elected governor?
