Jeezy had a Come to Jesus Moment with Nia Long & I’m Not Impressed

Colorist Black men Love to Lean on Phenotypically Black Women when They’re Down

So, listen, outside of a drug-themed anthem or two, I haven’t paid Jeezy any attention for years. Sure, he’s a talented rapper and all of that, but he’s never been a fave of mine on any level.

I mean, much respect to him for his success — and I genuinely mean that, but his persona has never really resonated with me. The main thing he raps about is selling cocaine and making money. But if y’all like it, I guess that’s all fine and dandy, like sour candy.

And honestly, I never even looked too much into his dating history. If you’re from the hood or even hood adjacent, you already know that darker men who make a lot of money usually hate phenotypically Black women. This is not something I’m even willing to debate about, and I say this as a woman who has actually dated such men in my past.

Even when I saw that he left his wife, Jeanie Mai, I didn’t care. I believe in divesting from divestors, and since Jeezy has never shown any sign of being concerned with the Black community and, least of all, Black women and children, he was of no interest to me.

Until now.

After I became aware of a conversation he had with Nia Long to supposedly “heal the community” and chile, I am over it. But since he wants attention from Black women, I’ll give him a page worth. I am ready to lean in on Jeezy. Let’s go!

When did Jeezy Start Caring about Black Women?

My first, and most important question is, when did Jeezy start caring about Black women? I am asking this sincerely. No, I don’t know him at all, but the only time I’ve ever heard him fondly speak of a Black woman was when he notoriously shouted out his auntie, who let him keep his “work” in her house back during his hustling days. And then what?!

At any rate, this is what prompted me to look into his dating history. Know what I found? C’mon, take a guess…

NO BLACK WOMEN!

With the exception of Keyshia Cole, who is said to be part Mexican and the first ex listed, they are all non-Black women.

OK, so, at this point, my Spidey senses are tingling. I just know Jeezy is not pulling the whole “use Black women to rehabilitate his career and improve his image” card in 2023?!

For those of you who have missed it, Black men love to seek out phenotypically Black women when they’re in trouble or down on their luck. Remember when Lamar Odom was all “in love” with Sabrina Parr? Yeah, me neither. But they were so happy together until they weren’t.

Or maybe you remember Brooke Crittendon, Kanye’s rebound that he dated when his career was taking off (but by no means at the current level), but his dating life was in the toilet. He dated her before reuniting with his only other Black ex, who stood beside him while he built his career; the last two Black women West dated. Eh…you probably don’t. And I bet you don’t remember how Kanye said he had to take “30 showers” after lying with the partially Black Amber Rose before he was clean enough for Ms. Kim K.

Or maybe you remember Jessica White, Nick Cannon’s rebound after he divorced Mariah Carrey. Probably not, because their relationship wasn’t exactly front-page news.

These days, she is on Love and Hip Hop, sharing the emotional abuse she dealt with when dealing with Cannon. Now, I’m not saying he didn’t mistreat any of his other women, but oddly, she seems to be the one with the most complaints.

But wait, let’s also not gloss over his latest child’s mother, LaNisha Cole, who also has the most complaints of all his children’s mothers. Oddly enough, after some asserted that he was a colorist due to his dating history and allegations from Azealia Banks, he suddenly went out and got a darker woman to bear his children. That’s another story for another day.

The point is, outside of men who actually treasure and value Black women, there is a subculture of Black men who believe Black women are their crutches and stepping stones and who will boldly reach out for help during their time of woe, only to go back to not giving a damn about Black women once they get their sh*t together.

Back to Jeezy

Chile, I’m not even going to waste my time dissecting this video, but watch it for yourself here:

As long as Jeezy has been on the scene, I have never seen him be this concerned with the Black community. And I think it’s all for clout and to change his image for whatever he’s planning next.

I mean, everything else aside, you will never convince me that a man who married a racist Asian woman who was married to a White man and publicly said she likes her “dark meat on the side” is at all concerned with the Black community.

Honestly, if it were not for that, we probably wouldn’t be here, but you can’t convince me that Jeezy is a proud Black man when he married a woman and gave her a half-Black child to raise after knowing this.

Now, I’m sure you’ll say maybe he “doesn’t see color,” right? Well, when he said,

“Damn, bald head, Pac sh*t/ Plus my main thing like to eat with chopsticks,” ~“Back”

— it would seem as though he is well aware of race and seems to see dating an Asian woman as a flex.

He also has colorist lyrics:

A couple bad tings and they all light-skinned ‘Hey, how you comin’ down?’ In a rose gold Hummer Wife beater chinchilla~ “Cold Summer”

“I ain’t even been to sleep, so how I’m waking up early? /Top floor chilling with some light-skin girlies, ~“Do It for You”

“Big wheels, big straps, you know I like it supersized / Passenger’s a redbone, her weave look like some curly fries / Inside fish sticks, outside tartar sauce / Pocket full of celery, imagine what she telling me / Blowing on asparagus, the realest shit I ever smoked.” ~ “Put On”

So, if nothing else, he’s a colorist, but I’ve never known a colorist who didn’t prefer non-Black women altogether.

If you ask me (or even if you don’t), Jeezy is like most divestors who only mention their Blackness when it benefits them. They date outside of their race to have children who aren’t phenotypically Black and teach them nothing about their Black roots.

We have seen this countless times: biracial children who have an identity crisis because they aren’t fully accepted in the White community and had Black fathers who didn’t think teaching them about Blackness was important. See: Doja Cat.

I’m not Buying it

Look, the bottom line is that just like that old work in his auntie’s basement, I’m not buying it. No Black woman should. Look, if you like him, then I’m not stopping you from supporting him, but please don’t think this man suddenly has some affinity for Black women or that Black women have a new Black male ally. We don’t.

I’m not quite sure what private or professional moves Jeezy has planned, but I need him to do what he’s been doing for most of his career: leave Black women out of it.

Do you think Jeezy deserves grace and support from Black women?
