I’ve Traveled To 7 Countries — Heres What I Learned
Does international travel really “change” your life?
Traveling has become increasingly prevalent in recent years. From expensive Switzerland trips glamorized by influencers. To budget Bali extravaganzas, All of which marketed by travel agencies as your next big ticket escapade.
Personally I’ve had the opportunity to visit 7 countries as listed below:
- Italy
- Switzerland
- America (I live here but I’m gonna count it anyway)
- Dubai
- India
- Germany
- Greece
I loved visiting (and some times living) In every single one of these countries. But there was also a lot I learned and gained from these trips.
World Perspective
I think many of us are often sheltered greatly from world until we get out and travel. There’s something so powerful about leaving your safety net of home and venturing thousands of miles onto unknown soil.
To me traveling has connected me more with myself, than anything ever has before. The act of relying on yourself, socializing with new types of people, and learning about other humans feels so primal and grounding.
You also learn about the less beautiful sides of countries, the real time effect that poverty, displacement, and other global issues can have on groups of people. And as a result become a more empathetic and learned human.
Culture
I think one of the most rewarding aspects of traveling is the exposure to new cultures and ideas. Its such a warm feeling to be embraced in the local culture, from the food to day-to-day shenanigans that make you slow down and reflect a little on how we are all just little people in a endless universe.
Plus, being exposed to new things opens your mind to ways you can improve your life back home. And ultimately how to live a more conscious moral life.
Survival skills
One of the first lessons of traveling solo is you need to be extremely street smart. Often we may understand what living safely is like in our own country, but can be extremely out of touch globally. Traveling has taught me to retrace my steps, stay calm in stressful situations, and how to plan, prepare, and provide effectively.
Personal experiences in each country
- Greece: Beautiful country, vibrant people, history, culture, and food! Tip: Remember a lot of smaller places here don’t have toilets capable of flushing toilet paper so be prepared with a bidet or wet wipes!
- Dubai: Really cool architecture and infrastructure! And a spectacular array of sights for travelers to experience. Tip: Try to travel to Dubai during autumn or winter as the summers can be very hot making it hard to enjoy outdoor focused activities.
- Germany: Wonderful landscapes, and rich history, (gorgeous Christmas markets). Tip: Remember to bring multiple forms of payment options. Making sure to include cash, as many places will exclusively accept cash only.
- Italy: BEST FOOD EVER! Wonderful welcoming people, and epic photo ops, as well as picturesque landscapes and buildings. Tip: Pickpockets are sadly extremely common, but so are other forms of scams so make sure to be extremely aware and cautious of your belongings and surroundings.
- India: Amazing history, really intricate temples and flavorful food. Loved to meet family and relatives! Tip: To avoid unnecessary attention try to wear clothes that fit and coincide with the cultural norms.
- Switzerland: The prettiest mountains, and cutest shops and houses. Lots of delicious chocolate and local cuisine! Tip: Be over-prepared rather than underprepared on everything! The Swiss exchange rate is high for America so understand that things will cost a pretty penny more often then not.
- America: Ah finally my home country of United States of A, I was born and brought up here so I don’t think I really have much to say. I mean we got some pretty dang good burgers and a cool statue ( lookin at ya lady liberty) Tip: Just be a good person! Don’t stare at people for a awkward amount of time, don’t catcall women, and just be a polite human (I promise you you’ll be remembered).
