I’ve taught 400+ students in my website flipping ebook — Here’s what I’ve learned

Photo by Chad Madden on Unsplash

I launched my website flipping ebook as a way to teach website flipping in an easy-to-understand, digestible way.

I took one kind of website flipping to target, flipping starter sites and I shared my strategy for how you could create a business for yourself in this market.

Over 400 students bought my ebook since launch!

Here’s what I’ve learned…

5 Things I Learned Selling Over 400 Ebook Copies Online

Alright, here are some lessons I’ve learned…

1. Selling online is hard

It’s not easy. I see creators talking about selling thousands of copies of their products, getting to 10K or 100K launches right off the bat.

I think it’s possible for some but, in my opinion, the vast majority of creators just aren’t going to see results like that.

And, that’s ok.

Because selling online is hard.

You have to put yourself out there. Share your creation with the world and hope they are interested enough to pull out their wallet and buy from you.

I think it’s honestly hard for everyone. But, with the right tools and the right team behind you, you can make it manageable and even easier on yourself.

Here are some of my favorites I use for my ebooks:

  • Canva: This is a graphic design software. There are thousands of templates for ebook covers, email headers, resumes, you name it. I love to use Canva for ebook cover design. I have the paid subscription for around $13/month but, the free account gets you a lot, too.
  • Google Docs: This is how I write my ebooks. It’s free.
  • ChatGPT: I use ChatGPT for outlining my books.
  • Gumroad: This is the platform I use to sell my ebooks. The best, hands down. I’ve tried others, but, nothing beats Gumroad, I think. It’s easy to upload your digital products, set pricing, add your graphics, and publish it. They handle collecting payments, digitally delivering the goods to customers, and paying you! They even offer a way for you to have affiliates for your products, post messages to your audience, and more. By the way, if you want to be an affiliate for one or more of my Gumroad products, click this link to sign up! I pay 40% commission.

2. Planning is so important

If you want to have a solid launch and continue to sell ebooks consistently in the future, you have to plan it!

  • Plan your content
  • Design your dream product launch
  • Look at short-term and long-term goals
  • Create and execute a marketing strategy

I have planned product launches and unplanned releases.

The planned launches always do WORLDS BETTER than the unplanned ones, which I why I plan from now on. Learn from my mistakes.

3. Marketing is essential

I get lazy with marketing sometimes, but, if you want sales, marketing is so crucial!

There are so many ways you can do it, organic or paid:

  • Influencer marketing
  • Social media
  • Email marketing
  • Content marketing

Try things. Don’t be afraid to invest in advertising. It can really pay off.

4. Adapt and pivot

Things change. The landscape is ever-evolving, regardless of the industry you’re in. It’s important to be flexible so you can adapt and pivot, as needed.

I’ve had to rename my products, take them off platforms, add them on new platforms, adjust my marketing angle, attract a new audience, you name it.

It happens.

Be prepared to make some moves if need be.

5. Passive income is addicting

I launched one ebook and then within a year or so later, I have 4 ebooks! The passive income is really nice.

Making money in your sleep. Waking up to see you made sales. Being on vacation or having a lazy day and still making money.

It’s great.

It pushes you to keep going and create even more products.

TL;DR

I’ve sold over 400 copies of this ebook.

Here are 5 things I’ve learned:

  1. Selling online is hard
  2. Planning is important
  3. Marketing is essential
  4. Adapting and pivoting are key skills
  5. Passive income is nice (and addicting)

Do you sell ebooks or products online?

What are some things you’ve learned during the process?
