Abstract

The author has recently baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies using a treasured family recipe passed down from their grandmother. These cookies hold sentimental value, being a staple treat in the author's childhood. Despite a personal commitment to watching their waistline, the author admits to depriving their children of the frequent enjoyment of these homemade delights. The recipe involves microwaving butter and sugar, mixing in condensed milk and chocolate chips, sifting in flour and baking powder, forming the dough into balls, and baking until golden. The author's preference is for hard and crunchy cookies, which this recipe reliably produces.

Opinions

  • The author values tradition and family heritage, as evidenced by their emotional connection to the cookies.
  • There is a hint of self-deprecating humor regarding the author's focus on their own waistline over continuing the baking tradition for their children.

It’s my grandmother's special recipe and they’re a family favourite. I grew up with them being a staple in the biscuit tins.

I have failed my own kids by not being so religious with the baking. It’s all about my waistline!

Here’s the recipe:

  • Soften 1/2 pound butter and 1 cup sugar in the microwave then beat until creamy
  • Add 4 tablespoons of condensed milk and mix again ( the more you add the creamier the mixture; I eyeball this step and they have never failed.
  • Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips and stir
  • Sift in 2 cups plain flour and 2 teaspoons baking powder. Mix again
  • Form into small balls and squish with a wet fork
  • Bake in 350℉ oven for 15–20 minutes.

I like my cookies hard and crunchy and these are just that.

Enjoy!
