I’ve Felt Ikigai So Many Times

Part 2: 2022 in review | Thanks for the vibes!

A slice of Ghibli

Ikigai is a concept of content, meaningful living. You feel Ikigai, whenever you realize your life’s worth living — which often happens through moments that reveal the joy of being to you.

It’s completely based on your own subjective view on life, it’s perspective-dependent.

To see a world in a grain of sand And a heaven in a wild flower Hold infinity in the palm of your hand And eternity in an hour

- William Blake (Visionary, Poet, Painter, Engraver), in his poem Auguries of Innocence

In this essay, I capture some of the moments which made me think deeply about my raison d’etre.

Flow with it

At the start of this year, I spent a good amount of time exploring Goa, a place popular for its Arabian Sea coast.

Rolling fields of native vegetation speckled with coconut groves, immense wetlands with mangrove crowns and shoals of fishes & crabs, rocky hilltops flush with wild flowering grasses, an azure ocean merging with the sandy stretches and craggy cliffs to create spectacular sunsets — I breathed it all in.

A scene for the ages | Sun setting in the ocean
What I brought back
The vine of my dreams. Thunbergia grandiflora / Bengal clock vine

This started as a 10–12" miserable clump of shoots. The magical transformation took few months. The tenacity of this vine has never ceased to amaze me.

Once it reached suitable position, the grandiflora hanged long strings dotted with brilliant blue flowers — something I could’ve only dreamt about.

Simple. Wholesome.

All kinds of wonderful

There’s this thing about roses. You may or may not like them. But you just cannot ignore them.

Their style is eternal. They bloom with vivid grace.

Wild & free

Can I ever be thankful enough for these things of beauty? I’ve never met a flower that I didn’t consider a spectacular work of art.

My muse, Mao

This stray cat adopted us when we moved in. She’s a sassy lady.

I counted her presence as undeserved grace.

Excellent chaos. The spring garden

Joy forever.

Ingenious craftsmanship

There’s so much grace all around us to be amazed by.

I’ll choose to do it more.

Like Thoreau said, my thanksgiving is eternal.

Thank you for reading. I wish you a fantastic year ahead :)
