I’ve bought “The Home Edit Life” book so you don’t have to
Seriously, don’t waste your money

I love organizing stuff and keeping everything in order and as clean as possible while having a teen and 7 pets in the house. Netflix “knew” that when it recommended “Get Organized with The Home Edit” in my feed.
I started watching the show while being stuck in bed for two weeks thanks to COVID and was instantly drawn to their way of making things organized and pretty.
I did some research and found out they also have a book, but at that time giving almost $30 for a book wasn’t in my budget. So I kept enjoying the show while having the book on my wishlist.
The second season came out and I decided to give the book a try and placed an order. A couple of weeks later I received my copy (we don’t have Amazon where I live, so ordering and receiving stuff takes a while) and I couldn’t wait to start reading it.
I was not ready for the disappointment I felt after several pages. The book sucks. I was expecting something like Marie Kondo’s “Spark joy” where you have actionable tips on how to organize, categorize and store things. But no, it’s a collection of pretty images and celebrity names they organized homes for.
Another thing that “bothered” me is the fact that every picture shows a huge space (fridge, closet, pantry) that most of us average people don’t have in our homes. Not to mention that homes in Europe are much smaller compared to ones in the US, so most of the spaces pictured in the book are not realistic.
In the era of people going more environmentally conscious, telling them to store everything in plastic “containers” is a crime since there are so many other eco-friendly options. They do sometimes use baskets, but I’m not sure what material they are made from.
While this book is pretty to look at it wasn’t very helpful in any real-life type of living organization. If you are looking for a book to help you organize your belongings, or declutter, this isn’t the book for you. However, if you want to look at pretty photos of huge houses you might never own, this is the book for you.
Lesson learned for the future and wanting some “shiny” popular things advertised online, do extensive research and if most of the users say that something sucks and not to buy it, trust them.
