It’s Very Easy To Lose Yourself While Moving
Slow Down A Little
I recently moved to San Fransisco. It was a long overdue move. I’d been sitting comfortably in my parent’s house for nearly eight months since graduation. I was honestly going back in age with my mom waking me up and cooking me meals.
When I finally got to San Fransisco, it was a complete 180 from that lifestyle. Weeks full of drinking, meeting random people, saying yes to essentially every social opportunity that came by. In short pretty much blowing my entire salary.
All my goals and ambitions in life were put on hold. The only thing that mattered to me was meeting as many people as possible. At one point me and my roommate were sitting together on Sunday’s mapping out our scheduled events for the week.
This lifestyle was fun for a while, but it definitely took a toll physically and even more so mentally. I’d met so many new people, but I felt weirdly isolated from myself.
I slowly came to realize I wasn’t doing anything that truly made myself happy. Don’t get me wrong all these nights out and boozy brunches were amazing, but they left me with no time to do what I truly liked.
Like always writing an article like this comes as a reprieve for me. Some alone time to just do what I like, even if zero people read this. Investing more time into writing, lifting, playing tennis, just small day to day activities slowly helped me settle into a routine that resembled what I wanted.
Don’t get me wrong I still hop on most social opportunities and often wake up on Sunday’s with my head swirling, it’s just that I’ve finally carved the time that I so badly needed for myself.
It’s essential to do this. It’s so easy to get caught in the allure of moving and meeting new people. It’s important to put yourself out there in as many social settings as possible and experience as much as possible, but also make sure to take a step back.
Amidst all the fun it’s really easy to lose track of yourself.
Make sure to slowly find a routine that has the proper balance between social excursions and time for yourself. These small changes that you need will help you slow down and enjoy everything that much more.
