It’s Time for the New Year, New Me Spiel
And I’m jumping on the bandwagon

‘2022! Ya sneaky wee snake. I hope you aren’t gonna be a pain in the arse just as your neighbour 2021 has been!?’
Yes, 2022 has arrived, sneaking up on us as if out of nowhere and that means only one thing; it’s time for the symbolic new year, new me spiel.
So, without further ado, let’s get this show on the road.
Time to Get Back on Track
For me, 2021 was a funny ole year full of immigration, job changes, excessive spending and overindulgence.
I quit my job in New Zealand, moved to Australia with my family, spent almost all of my savings setting up in a new country and overindulged in eating, drinking, procrastination and laziness due to lockdown and other such excuses.
So, in an attempt to rectify the negative parts of the past twelve months and get myself back on track, my 2022 shall be focused on four main pillars.
Health
Having spent the past six months pretty much eating whatever I like, drinking more than I should and not placing the needs of my body high on the priority list, it’s time to flip the script and get myself feeling fresh and motivated again through diet.
Which means a daily reduction of bread and sugar, a refrainment from alcohol consumption and an emphasis on doing what’s best for both my mind and body.
Fitness
Going hand in hand with health is fitness.
Just before Christmas, I signed up to the gym as a way of boosting my motivation to get back in shape and while I was attending a few days per week towards the end of the year, I feel now is the time to ramp things up and really set about increasing my cardio and shifting my beer belly.
Finances
As mentioned above, 2021 was a year of job changes and immigration for me and my family which in turn meant a ton of spending.
I burned through a large chunk of my savings with the move and sorting out Visa requirements for myself to be able to live and work in Australia and also in covering the costs that come with the Christmas holiday period.
So, now that things have calmed down, I’ve found a new job and have pretty much all loose ends tied up, it’s time to get the head down, put in the work and start to rebuild that nest egg.
Productivity
Of course, all of the above are easy to talk about but in order to achieve success and hit my targets, I’m going to need to be productive.
I’m gonna need to dig deep at times, push through procrastination, not give in to the lazy little voice in my that says it’s ok to ease up and really give it my all to keep moving in the right direction.
So, as I go about shifting my mindset and making some positive lifestyle changes, productivity is going to be at the forefront of my thinking. It has to be.
The Roundup
My plans for 2022 are not groundbreaking, profound or in any different to most peoples New Year’s resolution’s, but they are essential if I’m going to get myself back on track.
Of course, it would be more fun, exciting and likely make for a better read to come up with some exotic plans for the year; travel to places I’ve never been, chase major life dreams, focus on making a difference in the world. But sometimes in life, the biggest changes come from the simplest of plans and that’s what I’m aiming to do.
So, here’s to making some positive changes in the months to come and finally getting things back on track after a year or so of chaos.
Time to get after it!
Happy New Year 2022 🎉
